Washington apologizes

Isaiah Washington has released an official statement of apology for the reported scuffle on the set:

“I sincerely regret my actions and the unfortunate use of words during the recent incident on-set, Both are beneath my own personal standards… I have nothing but respect for my coworkers … and have apologized personally to everyone involved.”

My question is — why did this official statement take so long? I have a sneaky feeling that he was forced to do this. What do you think?
