Isaiah Washington Fired

by AmyD

Dr. Preston Burke won’t be back on Grey’s Anatomy next season. ABC opted to not renew Isaiah Washington’s contract. Of course, you all remember Washington’s anti-gay slur he used on the set, then backstage at the Golden Globes he used it again to deny using it the first time. He’s since gone to anger management and has filmed a PSA in an attempt to make amends. In one last swipe at the network, Washington released a statement: “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore,” which is a quote from the movie “Network.” A mature response for sure.

Anyway, I have mixed feelings. I think the character Burke is great. He was interesting to watch and no doubt Washington is a good actor. On the other hand, I understand the reason they had to let him go - the network just couldn’t risk any more bad press. So are you sad to see Burke go? If this was the inevitable end, should they have fired him months ago after the incidents instead of waiting? What do you think?

I think I just got an email from my hubby abou this and my FIRST thought was “I need to let Amy know in case she hasn’t heard!” But you’re all over.

I am also torn. I think Isiah Washington is a very cocky actor clearly his statements and behavior reflect that. Even in trying to be sincere her comes off flip about it all. As for the character, I really didn’t want to see this happen. I think that Burke is necessary to the show. Washington is a great actor and even if they do try to bring someone in to take his place, I don’t think it will be the same at all.

I love the show, but I’m still not sure how I feel about them firing Isaiah Washington. I didn’t like how his character just up and left Christina in their apartment, either.

I can also understand why they did that. I think he shouldn’t have made the remarks that he did.

I’m also here to tag you from the Cleveland page to write five reasons why you love blogging…enjoy!! :)

I am upset that isaiah washington was fired. I do not believe that he should of used that word in anyway, but it also did get blowen way bigger then what it should of been. I do feel that someone, I’m not sure who to blame, but someone was very unprofessional about the whole situation. I’m sure that there is problems on every other shows backstage, but it stays backstage. The actors are there to do their job and get their money, not to become best friends with everyone. I don’t think that any of the actors should of made comments on television about it. Dr. Burke was by far my favorite character. He was a person you could actually relate to instead of everyone having a huge drama in their lives everyday. I know thats what the show is all about but if i wanted to watch that crap i would watch a cheesey soap opera. I just want isaiah washington to know that he still does have fans and that i know there are many of us that will miss watching him on the show!
