But the good news is that Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh were both nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama! I really hope Chandra wins. Congratulations also goes to Diahann Carrol. She received a nomination for Best Guest Actress in a Drama for her role as Burke’s mother. And the show also received two Outstanding Makeup nominations.

I hope Chandra wins and if she doesn’t, go Sandra! Maybe next year, Grey’s will get back in the Emmy race on all fronts.

She says she decided against competing this year because she felt she wasn’t given strong enough material. I have to say I agree. We’ve discussed it on here many times – this season of Grey’s Anatomy wasn’t the strongest. The whole George and Izzie debacle alienated a lot of fans. Even if you did like them as a pair, you have to admit that overall the characters suffered from backlash for the way they hooked up (while George was still married).

Here’s what she said in a written statement from her publicist: “I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization (decided against competing). In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.”

It makes sense to me, but I have a feeling this will be talked about for days on end as a potential slap in the face to the show and series creator Shonda Rhimes. You guys know I’m a big fan of Katie’s and I think she’s dead on, not to mention ballsy for saying what we all have been thinking for a while. Maybe this won’t blow up, after all, Patrick Dempsey said all last summer that he was sick and tired of the see saw with Meredith and Derek. And low and behold, they are finally back together. So maybe this will be a wake up call to Shonda and company that they need to get back in gear.

And, I hope this opens up the race for Chandra Wilson who did have very strong material to work with this year.

All of Mark’s whoring around finally caught up with him as the nurses refused to help on any of his surgeries. This whole bit gave the best scene of the night for me – Bailey told the nurses, “He’s a whore, always has been, probably always will be. I don’t want to hear you all talking about ‘oh woe is me, he didn’t call me back and he’s dating other women.’ He’s nasty. But he is a doctor at this hospital and a pretty good one, too, so let us all close our knees and get back to doing our jobs, so he can do his job.� LOVED IT. Probably one of my most favorite Bailey scenes ever.

Speaking of Mark, he’s still sleeping with Callie. Oh Callie. Callie, who is trying to prove that she isn’t a lesbian. Callie ditched Hahn and a painfully awkward scene ensued between the two of them in the scrub room. Then later at the bar Callie finally confessed that Addison had asked if they were a couple. They both laughed, and then? Then they stopped laughing. Hmm…. Get ready for it – that is so happening. I pretty much guarantee it.

Elsewhere, Izzie tried to caution Alex about Rebecca without spilling the truth. (Rebecca isn’t pregnant). Instead, all she did was alienate Alex and tick him off. Sigh. When are they going to give Izzie a break? Is it possible to bring back the Izzie from the early days? The one that we loved? Or is it pointless because Katherine Heigl may leave the show? I know she’s just trying to protect Alex, but it isn’t working.

Cristina had a total meltdown when she learned that Burke had won a major award. An award he couldn’t have won without her. She continues to spiral downward. I wonder what it’s going to take to snap her out of it? Maybe a new love interest? Maybe Hahn? I don’t know people, I’m just guessing here.

So, thoughts?

Exactly. That’s exactly right. Whether you are a die hard Meredith and Derek fan or not, you have to admit Addison has a point.

This was a really good episode. Maybe it was because of all the fun one liners, or maybe it was because no one was really whiny, or maybe it was because of Addison being back. I think it was the whole combination that made for a very enjoyable episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

As far as plot goes, we didn’t move forward too terribly much so let’s discuss by topic.

1) It took Addison to point out that Callie and Hahn were coming across as more than just friends. Paranoid by this question, Callie asks Cristina and Meredith if people ever assume they are lesbians. Meredith replies with probably my favorite line of the night, “No way. We screw boys like whores on tequila.� HA! Loved it. So to prove that she likes boys, Callie hooked up with Mark at the end of the episode. I’m sure you caught that Hahn didn’t seem pleased.
2) Speaking of Hahn – I don’t like her. She does seem overly harsh with Cristiana, but I don’t know what it is about her – I just don’t like her. I wonder how the whole Callie/Hahn thing will shake out?
3) Meredith and Derek worked on their clinical trial and in the end, their patient died. In the middle of the case, Meredith stopped by her shrink to talk about Derek. I think this is progress.
4) Izzie may have gotten her groove back. I love that she acknowledged that she had only been trying to be Cristina or be something she wasn’t and that she needed to figure out who she is.
5) George was laughing and having fun with the other interns. Good for him. I was sick of sad sack George.
6) Bailey didn’t get much screen time but when she did we finally learned that Tucker did move out. Who is she going to lean on when Addison goes back to LA?
7) Speaking of Addison – can she stay? Please? Pretty please. Don’t send her back to her “messy single life� in LA. Does anyone really need to see her on Private Practice all that much?

Oh yeah - Rebecca showed up, said she was pregnant, but Izzie learned that she isn’t really pregnant. All aboard the crazy train!

Is Grey’s of yesterseason back? It felt that way to me. I’ve only heard two other opinions on it so far – my mother said she had a hard time “getting into the episode� and my friend Liesa said she loved it. I’m anxious to hear what the rest of you thought.

The surgical contest was awesome. It finally brought back a little fun to what had become the gloomy, doomy Seattle Grace. Cristina was of course hyper competitive, so was Alex and Izzie. Meredith ended up winning it, but even more interesting was she was inspired by her brain tumor patient to start a clinical research study. Good for her. And speaking of good for her – she’s in therapy! Was anyone else muttering to themselves, “It’s about damn time� when they showed her on the couch? Maybe that was just me.

I liked Izzie in this episode, too. She was trying to find her good instincts again and she is always fun to watch with patients. Cheech Marin turned in a very good performance as her completely fine patient that underwent $120,000 worth of tests so Izzie could win the contest and/or get her instincts back. I’m very pleased that we have moved on from the George/Izzie debacle. (I know some of you wanted them together, but you have to admit, it ended up just being one big ole hot mess).

George finally recognizes his whininess as Lexie struggles to get him to stay in their “crapartment.� But, I do have to admit, it was always kind of fun to see Meredith, Izzie, George and Alex under the same roof. Alex didn’t get much face time last night, but it looks like his turn is coming up next week. Along with the return of Addison. YEA!

Side note – are they setting up a little relationship for Callie and Hahn? Hmm….Maybe they are just pals, but who knows. Speaking of pals - how cute is the little bromance between Derek and McSteamy? LOVE IT. And Meredith and Derek being apart didn’t really phase me, what about you? More Baiely, please and I’ll be a happy camper. Thoughts?

Grey’s Anatomy, 451 Press

I like to call these five upcoming episodes Grey’s Anatomy, Season 4, Part 2. Because for us, for the stories, it really does feel like a whole separate season. I came back to work after the strike with a whole new purpose, a new dedication. And a sense of hope.
My best friend, Oprah…OK, in my head she’s my best friend, but in reality she barely knows me. But, secretly, I like to pretend I’m Gayle King because Gayle is the person who makes Oprah laugh, and who doesn’t want to be the one to do that? Also, I secretly wanna be Angelina Jolie. Because of the babies and the Brad and the fabulousness, but I don’t have the legs…. I lost my point. My point is that Oprah would say I have renewed my spirit or something very sage like that. For me, that means I’m starting to enjoy this again. Really enjoy this. Feel the rich possibilities.
So this season — Grey’s Anatomy, Season 4, Part 2 — is the season of hope. For Meredith and Derek. For Izzie. For George. For Bailey. For Callie. Hopeful things are happening. Meredith and Derek are going to get together for good. That’s right. For good. Now, if you think I’m going to tell you how it will happen, you’re crazy. ’Cause it is yummy stuff. It is special. I spent a lot of nights lying in bed awake thinking about this.
These characters are my friends. They are people I know well who happen to live inside my head. I worry about their shortcomings and I celebrate their victories and I so, so want them to be happy. But more than happy, I want them to be brave. These episodes are about bravery. No ferry boats crash, no bombs explode. No one we love dies. But still, Meredith and Derek getting together — how they get together — is about bravery.
Alex is going to have to be brave, too. Because things are coming to a head with the woman we know as Ava/Jane Doe/Rebecca. And when it is over, he’s never going to be the same. Cristina’s struggling with the loss of Burke and what that means for her surgical career. She’s going to do some things we have never seen Cristina Yang do. Izzie’s already been through hell, and she’s coming out the other side. George is growing up, becoming the man worthy of having Bailey’s son named after him. Callie, Erica and Mark are going to go through some changes that might surprise you. Bailey struggles to fix her marriage. The Chief makes a play for the woman he loves.
A lot happens in these five episodes. And it all ends with a kiss. A good kiss. A great kiss. A kiss so good it makes us lean into our televisions. A kiss we never saw coming. Oh, it’s a major kiss. As Derek would tell us, “I’m all about the kissing. More kissing, I say.� It’s that kind of a kiss.
I can’t tell you who’s going to be doing the kissing. That’s not how I roll. You’ll just have to watch and see.

And bonus! April 24th will also bring us a new episode of Ugly Betty. And I know many Grey’s fans love Betty, too. The hour between Betty and Grey’s will be filled with freshmen series Eli Stone. Is anyone watching this? Should I be watching it? (Side note, Loretta Divine who is the Chief’s soon to be ex-wife stars on Eli). Once Lost makes its return it is scheduled to fall on Thursdays again – probably causing Grey’s to move up to the hour after Betty and letting Lost close the night.

I can’t wait!

Patrick told the press he decided to leave the show to focus on his budding film career and his family. He explained that he enjoys the shorter time frame required for making movies over television. Quitting the hit show will allow Patrick and his family to move back East.

Patrick will be seen in one last episode of Grey’s Anatomy that will air this month. SPOILER ALERT – It has been rumored that McDreamy will be in a car accident on his way to work and Bailey, the Chief and Cristina all try desperately to save him. A hysterical Meredith has to be restrained by George and Izzie. In a shocking turn of events, Derek will flat line and will “cross over� and have a chat with Denny and Kyle Chandler (the bomb squad guy) and a play quick game of catch with Doc the dog. He will eventually find his way back while a Jem song plays in the background. When he wakes he tells Meredith he is starting his own practice in Orlando to be close to Disney World. Meredith will then sleep with George again, setting off a series of complications for the rest of the season.

APRIL FOOLS!

From what I’ve read about the last batch of episodes we will get to end the season, it seems as though series creator Shonda Rhimes is going to try and wipe the George/Izzie slate clean. TR was quoted in Entertainment Weekly saying his character will spend some time trying to get back to being “the man Bailey named her baby after.� And I’m glad to hear that. I used to love George, but that whole Callie and Izzie mess sort of ruined him for me. Here’s hoping we’ll see the George we used to love back and better than ever!

And our boy Patrick Dempsey has never looked hotter. Seriously. Maybe it’s that whole dashing prince thing going on in the movie, but wow, if you are a McDreamy fan, trust me, you must see this movie! And you can play a fun game during the movie – watch to see how many times Patrick’s hair is completely different from one minute to the next – in the SAME SCENE. The stylist apparently just couldn’t figure out how to part it, or not part it.

Did I really spend the better part of a paragraph talking about his hair?

It is a ridiculously awesome head of hair though. Seriously.

And for you die hard Disney fans, take note that Robert’s (Patrick’s) secretary in the movie is none other than Jodi Benson – the voice of the Little Mermaid.

Seriously, go rent it today ladies! You will love it!
