Did Grey’s jump the shark last night?
Well, I’ve talked to some diehard fans this morning and the consensus seems to be that we were disappointed with last night’s episode. It was just too much. I will admit, the show did manage to pull at my heart strings a bit with the Christina thing, but otherwise, come on. A whole episode with Meredith between life and death? The girl bleeding out? Izzie continuing to be a bitch to George? How could Meredith not be brain dead? And as soon as they revived her, they raised the bed up and ALL walked out except for Christina? COME ON. I’ll still love the show and watch the show, but this wasn’t a good turn of events for me.
I think all great shows go through a period when they are so hugely popular that no matter what they do, there is backlash. Think back to Friends and the post Super Bowl episodes - those 6 were on all the magazine covers, Entertainment Tonight, Leno, Letterman, had huge ratings and then the backlash came. It sort of became uncool to be a huge fan of the show for a while. Fans couldn’t be satisified with storylines - we wanted Ross and Rachel together and when they broke up, we were pissed. Same with ER, same with The OC. And even such an awesome show as Lost is currently facing the same thing - fan backlash for the ridiculously long hiatus, etc.
And now Grey’s. Spinning off the show is just too much. It’s going to hurt the show. Last night probably hurt the show with some viewers. What do you think - did they jump the shark? If so, do you really care? Like I said, I’ll still love the show and watch every week, but I do think this was the wrong direction to go in - the whole Meredith drowning bit was a bad idea.

I think fans are too quick to throw in the shark on shows these days. I’ve heard some complaints about this three-parter, and some praise for it. Personally, I found it all very entertaining, and it didn’t diminish my respect for or interest in Grey’s at all. I’m signed on for Shonda’s vision, wherever it may wander. But truly, somebody needs to smack Izzy upside the head and make her give George an actual sincere apology, or I’m going to start rooting for her to join Denny in the Heavenly OR.

I liked it. I think what might have spoiled it was, all the spoilers. We all knew what was going to happen. I think it was a good episode. Especially when Merideth said “I had intimacy issues. Do you realize how stupid that sounds now.” Think of how many people have just “given up” only to realize later that they shouldn’t have. Only, they aren’t so lucky to come back from the dead.
I also think that last years post Super Bowl episode was pretty hard to top. Remember, th bomb that ended up killing Dylan? The code black? My heart was racing during that show. I think they have a lot set up and a lot of different story lines to move on with. I think we (at least I do) finally have closure with the Denny/Izzie thing. Now Izzie can get her act back together and be the fun Izzie that we all love.
I personally love the idea of Addison having her own show. I found it odd at first but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I love Grey’s Anatomy though and so do a lot of other people and who wouldn’t want another show just like it. I’ll watch them both. Just like other people watch all 50 CSI shows.

Wow, what suspense. The show is called “Grey’s Anatomy”. We always knew Meredith GREY would not die. That detracted from the show for me, it was like mental masturbation.
