Last Night’s Recap

Friday, May 1st, 2009

denny_izzie3Wow! Grey’s keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it? It is too bad that they seem to be on an upswing at the end of the season, but we’ll take it! First off, please don’t kill Izzie, Shonda Rhimes. Do you hear me? DON”T KILL HER. If she wants off the show, let her go, but don’t kill her. Send her away after her dramatic remission to start over somewhere, or have her take a job somewhere else. Anything besides killing her. That would be too much – Denny, Meredith’s mother, Lexie’s mother, Burke leaving – it is just TOO MUCH.

Izzie is continuing to plan Meredith and Derek’s wedding, but I’m starting to think that Izzie and Alex may end up being the ones that tie the knot. I guess we will see next week. Elsewhere, Sloane stepped it up for Lexie to meet her now sober father. Thatcher is working through his steps and apologized to Meredith and Lexie. Lexie reconnected with him, but Mer went running. She had a massive fight with the Chief over a little girl that shot her abusive father and reminded him that he wasn’t her father. In a touching scene at the end, the Chief apologized for overprotecting her now and for not protecting her as a child.

Callie chose to stay estranged from her parents instead of lying and saying she broke up with Arizona. Hunt gave Cristina the cold shoulder all day and instead focused his energy on helping George learn how to be a good trauma surgeon. When Cristina confronted him about it, he told her he was trying to avoid saying the three words to her that he wanted to say because it wouldn’t be fair to her. Those two are far from over. I’m liking their relationship and will be curious to see where it goes.

Izzie. Sigh. It makes me sad to even talk about it. Her mother showed up and she pretended to be fine so she wouldn’t worry. But considering the rumors going around about a certain guest star for next week…. I’m afraid she won’t be…

Stand By Me Recap

Friday, March 20th, 2009

alex_bailey_cristina_orWow. Great episode tonight! This one reminded me of Grey’s days of old.

Finally we got to hear an official diagnosis for Izzie – stage 4 skin cancer that has spread to her brain and liver. Of course, Cristina is the only one she told and Cristina spent the whole day trying to get Izzie an appointment with an oncologist and Izzie didn’t even go. It took the patient that needed the face transplant to realize that she too needs her friends.

Cristina told Alex and Bailey in the OR before her first solo surgery about the cancer. And they told George and Meredith and the Chief. Love or hate Katherine Heigl, there’s no denying that the girl can act. And this was one of her best episodes. I really don’t want her to leave the show. Or if she has to leave, couldn’t they have come up with a better exit strategy?

Derek’s still depressed and drunk in the woods. Bailey sent Owen and Callie after him, but instead it was the Chief who finally started to break through to him. Derek confessed he didn’t know if Meredith would ever forgive him and the Chief urged him to fight for her. When she showed up, Derek apologized and asked if Meredith could love him if he wasn’t a surgeon. She said no because that would mean he couldn’t help Izzie and she didn’t know if she could love someone that would throw away a great gift.

So what did you think?

An Honest Mistake Recap

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Wow. This was a great episode. The crossover with Private Practice ended with this episode and Addison went on back to LA and to the Oceanside Wellness Group. I miss her at Seattle Grace, though. I still watch Private Practice, but I have to admit I usually struggle to get through the episodes. To me, it has morphed into a freaky medical case of the week, show. But I digress..

The big news of the night (and there was a lot of news) is that Izzie is finally trying to figure out what is wrong with her. The patient that she misdiagnosed with cancer returns to tell her that the blood samples must have been swapped, because she is only anemic which means that Izzie’s blood sample is the one that had high markers that could indicate cancer. So, she finds a spot on her back and has the dermatologist take it off. At the end, the dermatologist tracks Izzie down to give her the results. Of course we won’t find out what is really going on for a few more weeks. Meanwhile, the interns are on the case – except they don’t know that they are trying to diagnose Izzie.

Bailey is really going after the Pediatric Surgery fellowship. The Chief is disappointed because he “groomed” her to follow in his footsteps. But Bailey angrily reminds him that she isn’t his daughter and it is unfair to put those expectations on her. I don’t know how I feel about her in this new field, either. If it means more Arizona screen time, then I’m not too thrilled. I just can’t get on board with her. And she kisses Callie but then promptly turns her down when she asks her out? One word – games. Not a fan.

Derek still hasn’t proposed to Meredith. He’s been way too busy trying to save Jen’s life after he nicked her aneurysm, setting off a series of complications for her and her baby. The final surgery led to a face off between Derek and ex-wife Addison, with the Chief finally having to intervene to make Derek stop working on the already gone Jen. What a sad turn of events with her dying. Of course it just tore Derek to pieces and when Mark finally worked up the courage to tell him he was seeing Lexie, in a fit of rage, Derek attacked Mark and a brawl ensued.

Cristina went toe to toe with an old surgeon played by Faye Dunaway. In typical Cristina fashion, she insulted the doctor and proved that she was actually more qualified to do the surgery than the more experienced doctor. Hunt called her on her insensitivity, but said he wanted to be around in 40 years to pry the scalpel out of her hand.

I’m anxious to see the fall out of Jen’s death and of the fight between Derek and Mark. I’m sad to see Addy go back to LA, though. She’s always fun to have around for some reason.

Stairway to Heaven Recap

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

derek_cristinaFirst off – in a very unusual move, Denny did the voice over narration instead of Meredith. This has happened a couple of times before, but I’m glad they did it because it set the tone of the episode. Death, death and more death was at the heart of this one. Let’s discuss…

William succeeded in knocking himself unconscious. Meredith stabilized him and planned to let him die as he wished. She let Bailey know that he wasn’t going to live long and that he was willing to donate his organs to Jackson, Bailey’s patient. Bailey chided Mer, telling her she needed to do everything she could to save her patient But as Jackson’s condition deteriorated, she begged Derek to not do surgery on William so Jackson could have his organs. That was a great scene – Bailey and Derek, staring each other down with Derek icily saying, “It’s your call Dr. Bailey. Am I a surgeon or am I an executioner?” Chandra Wilson needs an Emmy, y’all.

The Chief and George went on an organs hunt and miraculously (read: only on TV) found a match. The Chief finally located a patient that was about to be taken off life support and after a couple of tries, convinced the patient’s wife to donate his organs. Jackson woke up after the surgery and thank goodness because I don’t think Bailey or the viewers would have made it had he not.

Meanwhile, Izzie tries repeatedly to break up with Denny but he won’t go away. Finally he tells her to use her knowledge as a doctor to figure it out. In a heartbreaking scene she realizes she is sick and screams at Denny for not telling her. This was a great payoff for a subplot that has dragged on for way, way too long. Katherine Heigl did a superb job with that material and should have plenty to put on her “For your consideration” reel now.

Derek told Cristina he plans to propose and asked for her advice. In a cute scene, he told Cristina that he new Mer would need someone to “freak out to” and that she missed her. Cristina dismissed him, but after William’s execution, Derek took the inconsolable Meredith to Cristina’s. Cristina went out to the car to calm Meredith down. Was anyone else aggravated that the music played over their first words to each other? I wanted to know what they said.

Oh, and Lexie fractured Sloan’s junk. I kind of like these two together. That was sweet when she got into bed with him and stroked his hair. Will it last, though? That’s the question.

Ok, what else?

Sympathy for the Devil Recap

Friday, January 16th, 2009

These past two episodes have been really good. I love the continuity of the storylines. It’s much better than those stand alone episodes that it doesn’t matter if you’ve seen the previous week or not.

This week continues the serial killer’s (William) story. He wants to give his organs to Bailey’s dying patient, Jackson. As it turns out, William was a match, but another child died, and they proceeded with the surgery using his organs instead. The organs didn’t take and Jackson had 24 hours to live without another transplant.

The creepy William continued to get into Meredith’s head. He begged Derek to let him die instead of having brain surgery. They did emergency surgery and after William heard that Jackson’s surgery was unsuccessful, he asked Meredith to help him find a way to die so Jackson could have his organs. Meredith told him that if he damaged the head wound, he would likely die. After she left the room, he began working to injure his head wound.

Meanwhile, Derek’s mother arrived. Sloan hid from her and when finally confronted, he confessed his affair with Lexie to her. She told him he should be happy. So I wonder if these two are going to try to actually be a couple now? Might be interesting.

Meredith tried to be all sunny and Izzie-like for the meeting, but it didn’t work. Best line of the night came courtesy of Mer’s still estranged BFF, Cristina – “That ponytail? It’s going to blow.” Those two still need to get back together. Cristina can obviously use someone to talk to about the Major. The shower scene? Interesting – didn’t know what to make of it.

Denny is still hanging around but Izzie has had enough. She tells him she’s “breaking up” with him. And happily listens to Alex’s idea for a road trip to meet his mother. Then we saw Denny sit down next to Alex and say they needed to talk. Let’s just get this storyline going – whatever it is going to be – let’s hurry up and find out, because I love Denny, but they are dragging it out way too long and it’s ridiculous.

And big news - Derek got his mother’s engagement ring!! Going to the McChapel???

What did you think?

Recap

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Instead of a traditional recap, I’m going to recap by pairs. Jump in and let me know what you think…

Meredith and Derek: These two fall on opposite sides of how to treat a serial killer. Meredith wants to make him as comfortable as possible, while Derek is fine giving him the minimum painkillers. We did learn that Derek’s father was killed in a robbery attempt, which explained his position.Eric Stolz was great as the creepy killer that tried to get everyone to believe they are only one bad day away from being no different than him. His presence at Seattle Grace caused some drama between another pair..

Cristina and Meredith: Cristina and Meredith still aren’t speaking. While it makes for good drama, I much prefer these two as friends. Neither seems willing to budge. Sadie reminded Meredith that he unwillingness to work on their relationship caused them to grow apart. Sadie had a great line about Cristina, “That girl mates for life.” Too funny. And Sadie caused problems for…

Callie and Mark: Callie wants Sadie, Mark wants Lexie. I actually kind of prefer those two with each other, but I’m willing to give the Mark Lexie thing some time to grow on me. Callie and Mark as always funny together and the show has needed that dose of humor lately.

Alex and Izzie. Izzie finally told Alex about Denny, but instead of being upset or concerned about it, he laughed it off. Izzie seems to have made a choice of trying to let Denny go, but will he? Or will he still be hanging around next week?

Arizona and Bailey: I’m with Bailey, Arizona (“who didn’t have the sense to change her name”) seems a bit to blasé about patient care. But that’s ok, because if it gives Bailey a better storyline, I’m all for it.

George is still very much in the background. Tyne Daly guests as Derek’s mom next week. Are Hunt and Cristina going to hook up or what? And I’m tired of the moody Chief.

“In the midnight hour” Recap

Friday, November 21st, 2008

A lot happened in this episode. So let’s get right to it. Boy, Callie is having a rough time isn’t she? First George cheats on her and divorces her, then she hooks up with Hahn only to have her break up with her and now she gets her nose broken by a patient. The patient that broke her nose was a sleepwalker with a 13 year old daughter. That storyline was one of the more touching ones of the season. The poor little girl had been staying awake to try and keep her dad safe when he sleep walks. I was so glad to see Mark Sloan have a heart and take an interest in helping her.

Meanwhile, the interns lost their collective minds. They decided to do an epidural on one intern and then Sadie volunteered to have her appendix removed. Of course the surgery goes horribly wrong and Lexie has to get help from Meredith and Cristina. While the Chief is telling Meredith and Cristina how proud he is that they handled a difficult situation well, Lexie bursts into the room to try and defend them. This causes Cristina to reveal she knew the interns were practicing on each other. Meredith exploded on Cristina and that led to a huge fight. Conflict on the Meredith Cristina front might just be some of the more interesting drama we will see.

Again, what is with George and the lack of screen time? Is it because the cast is getting too big at this point? I don’t get it. I was glad someone finally clued him to Lexie’s feelings about him. But for some reason, I don’t see that relationship really happening.

Speaking of relationships not really happening…. I really don’t know what to say about Izzie and Denny at this point. I mean, he is dead and Shonda said Izzie didn’t have a brain tumor, so he must be a ghost, or she is just going crazy. Either way, I wish they would just explain it. It would be much easier to watch (to me) if I knew what was going on. If we knew she was just dreaming about him, then I wouldn’t spend the whole time going “what the…”. But that’s just me. What did you guys think?

“Rise Up” Recap

Friday, November 7th, 2008

First of all, wow, now that is what I am talking about! This was finally a Grey’s Anatomy that felt like the glory days. We had serious medical drama, relationship drama and even some humor thrown in for good measure. I feel as though we got back to the heart and soul of the show that we all love so much.

Poor George. He spent the entire day with a dummy (Insert your own joke here). Little did he know that the Chief was the voice of the dummy and controlled its activity. It was good for a couple of laughs, but I kept wondering why he was all alone in this episode.

Elsewhere, Derek is losing sleep because Meredith and Cristina stay on the phone all night. He challenges Mark to sleep with Yang and provide a good distraction. Mark says no until Derek reminds him that he slept with Addison. And speaking of Addison, I like that she was mentioned by name in another part of the episode. (More Private Practice news later…) Mark had no luck with Yang, much to his dismay.

Hunt (Major Hottie? McHottie? Does he have a McName yet?) is a welcome addition to the staff and I really hope he sticks around. After watching Alex, Lexie and Yang fight over procedures on a patient he had enough. Later he confronted Yang about her drive and ambition. Uncharacteristically, she had a quiet moment and explained about her father’s death and how it motivated her to be a surgeon. Those two are going to heat up very soon – it’s coming, y’all.

Bailey and Derek had a very emotional case with an elderly couple. The wife had a brain tumor and signed a Do Not Resuscitate order. When she began to crash, her husband did chest compressions on her. And that’s when I started to cry… Bailey took over for him and then Derek finally had to take over and let the patient go. To me, this was one of the most gut wrenching medical cases so far this season. Chandra Wilson and Patrick Dempsey were brilliant in those scenes.

Now to the most heart wrenching story of them all – Denny. Like or loathe Katherine Heigl, there is no denying that the girl is ridiculously talented. Hahn’s patient needed a heart – the heart Izzie had stolen for Denny should have been his. Wracked with guilt, she kept seeing Denny everywhere she turned. She was picked for the case to talk the patient through a procedure, but she froze. Furious, Hahn threatened to take her off her service. Hahn mentioned this to Callie and Callie explained Izzie’s engagement to Denny, etc. Hahn was outraged and went to the Chief and demanded Izzie be fired, etc. The Chief told her it had been addressed and he would not cause Izzie to lost her career over her mistake.

The Denny and Izzie stuff was great. Even though he was just standing there, the emotion on his face was so good – and her reactions were also. Oh how I loved Denny. Anyway, at the end she told Denny she needed to let go and move on and she was relieved to see Alex next to her. I love Alex and Izzie together – I’m so glad they are going that route. I’m pretty sure Katherine does indeed have material for the Emmy reel this year… We’ll see if she submits it.

And the “Callica” romance imploded as Callie defended Izzie and begged Hahn not to report the incident. Hahn told Callie she had to make a choice, and when Callie said the Chief was right, Hahn ended their relationship and left. We all know that is the end of Hahn on the show, but I am curious to see what the fall out is.

Dream a little dream of me – Parts 1 and 2

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Let’s talk, y’all! First of all, I thought this was a good, solid episode of Grey’s. It was full of drama and had some humor thrown in, too. It seems like the show is going to be a bit heavier on the medical stories this season and how those affect the Seattle Grace crew. So, let’s break it down.

1) Seattle Grace dropped to 12 from number 3 on the best teaching hospitals list. The Chief was not pleased and spent the entire episode angry about it.
2) Meredith asks Derek to move in and then quickly changes her mind. She spends the entire episode whining about it.
3) Lexie is pining away for George.
4) Callie and Hahn don’t know what to do after their kiss.
5) Cristina and Meredith had a fight over Mer’s whining about Derek, then Cristina was impaled by an icicle.
6) A hot new Army doctor stopped by.
7) It was a guest star Emmy reel making episode with Kathy Baker and Bernadette Peters.
8) Rose went a little Fatal Attraction on Derek after he dumped her.
9) Bailey is awesome, as usual

The biggest story was Meredith and Derek. And I was with Cristina – I am sick of hearing about it, too. And I’m thinking that her monologue to Meredith about that was Shonda Rhimes’ nod to fans building frustration over the will they won’t they of seasons past. I’m hoping those two will get together and stay together for a while.

Cristina is so going to get with the hot Army doctor. You can see that coming a mile away. And I have a feeling he is going to change his mind and come to work at Seattle Grace.

Izzie and Alex would make a good pair, if he wasn’t so self-destructive. (Remember a couple of years ago when they first slept together and Izzie said, “Do you want to stand here and talk about it? Or do you want to LITERALLY take off your pants?’ hilarious). And Denny made another brief appearance. Anytime he shows up it just reminds me of how good Izzie’s storylines used to be. I’m hoping this season will show a marked improvement.

Poor Lexie – all pining for George. She wants a real big sister and Meredith can’t really be that and she wants George and he just sees her as a friend. I’m kind of ready to see another side of Lexie. Maybe she should start hanging out at the Joe’s and meeting interesting folks.

Speaking of, remember the bar? Bring back the Joe’s scenes, those were always great.

And how crappy is it that we have to wait until October 9 for another new episode?

Thoughts?

“The Becoming” Recap

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Let’s discuss. What did you think? I didn’t care for this episode as much as I did last week’s. I think I’m with a good majority of Grey’s Anatomy fans that are sort of over the whole Meredith and Derek drama. Either put them together for good or let it be. All the back and forth ain’t so much fun anymore. But on to other topics…

All of Mark’s whoring around finally caught up with him as the nurses refused to help on any of his surgeries. This whole bit gave the best scene of the night for me – Bailey told the nurses, “He’s a whore, always has been, probably always will be. I don’t want to hear you all talking about ‘oh woe is me, he didn’t call me back and he’s dating other women.’ He’s nasty. But he is a doctor at this hospital and a pretty good one, too, so let us all close our knees and get back to doing our jobs, so he can do his job.? LOVED IT. Probably one of my most favorite Bailey scenes ever.

Speaking of Mark, he’s still sleeping with Callie. Oh Callie. Callie, who is trying to prove that she isn’t a lesbian. Callie ditched Hahn and a painfully awkward scene ensued between the two of them in the scrub room. Then later at the bar Callie finally confessed that Addison had asked if they were a couple. They both laughed, and then? Then they stopped laughing. Hmm…. Get ready for it – that is so happening. I pretty much guarantee it.

Elsewhere, Izzie tried to caution Alex about Rebecca without spilling the truth. (Rebecca isn’t pregnant). Instead, all she did was alienate Alex and tick him off. Sigh. When are they going to give Izzie a break? Is it possible to bring back the Izzie from the early days? The one that we loved? Or is it pointless because Katherine Heigl may leave the show? I know she’s just trying to protect Alex, but it isn’t working.

Cristina had a total meltdown when she learned that Burke had won a major award. An award he couldn’t have won without her. She continues to spiral downward. I wonder what it’s going to take to snap her out of it? Maybe a new love interest? Maybe Hahn? I don’t know people, I’m just guessing here.

So, thoughts?

“Piece of my heart? Recap

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

“I could kick your ass right now. Are you letting him go? Derek Christopher Shepherd? Are you letting him go?? – Addison

Exactly. That’s exactly right. Whether you are a die hard Meredith and Derek fan or not, you have to admit Addison has a point.

This was a really good episode. Maybe it was because of all the fun one liners, or maybe it was because no one was really whiny, or maybe it was because of Addison being back. I think it was the whole combination that made for a very enjoyable episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

As far as plot goes, we didn’t move forward too terribly much so let’s discuss by topic.

1) It took Addison to point out that Callie and Hahn were coming across as more than just friends. Paranoid by this question, Callie asks Cristina and Meredith if people ever assume they are lesbians. Meredith replies with probably my favorite line of the night, “No way. We screw boys like whores on tequila.? HA! Loved it. So to prove that she likes boys, Callie hooked up with Mark at the end of the episode. I’m sure you caught that Hahn didn’t seem pleased.
2) Speaking of Hahn – I don’t like her. She does seem overly harsh with Cristiana, but I don’t know what it is about her – I just don’t like her. I wonder how the whole Callie/Hahn thing will shake out?
3) Meredith and Derek worked on their clinical trial and in the end, their patient died. In the middle of the case, Meredith stopped by her shrink to talk about Derek. I think this is progress.
4) Izzie may have gotten her groove back. I love that she acknowledged that she had only been trying to be Cristina or be something she wasn’t and that she needed to figure out who she is.
5) George was laughing and having fun with the other interns. Good for him. I was sick of sad sack George.
6) Bailey didn’t get much screen time but when she did we finally learned that Tucker did move out. Who is she going to lean on when Addison goes back to LA?
7) Speaking of Addison – can she stay? Please? Pretty please. Don’t send her back to her “messy single life? in LA. Does anyone really need to see her on Private Practice all that much?

yang_addison.jpg

Oh yeah - Rebecca showed up, said she was pregnant, but Izzie learned that she isn’t really pregnant. All aboard the crazy train!

“Where the Wild Things Are? Recap

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Before we discuss, I have to say I am so glad regular TV is back! And you know I love me some Lost and Ugly Betty, too. It was almost more TV than a poor girl could take for one night.

Is Grey’s of yesterseason back? It felt that way to me. I’ve only heard two other opinions on it so far – my mother said she had a hard time “getting into the episode? and my friend Liesa said she loved it. I’m anxious to hear what the rest of you thought.

The surgical contest was awesome. It finally brought back a little fun to what had become the gloomy, doomy Seattle Grace. Cristina was of course hyper competitive, so was Alex and Izzie. Meredith ended up winning it, but even more interesting was she was inspired by her brain tumor patient to start a clinical research study. Good for her. And speaking of good for her – she’s in therapy! Was anyone else muttering to themselves, “It’s about damn time? when they showed her on the couch? Maybe that was just me.

I liked Izzie in this episode, too. She was trying to find her good instincts again and she is always fun to watch with patients. Cheech Marin turned in a very good performance as her completely fine patient that underwent $120,000 worth of tests so Izzie could win the contest and/or get her instincts back. I’m very pleased that we have moved on from the George/Izzie debacle. (I know some of you wanted them together, but you have to admit, it ended up just being one big ole hot mess).

George finally recognizes his whininess as Lexie struggles to get him to stay in their “crapartment.? But, I do have to admit, it was always kind of fun to see Meredith, Izzie, George and Alex under the same roof. Alex didn’t get much face time last night, but it looks like his turn is coming up next week. Along with the return of Addison. YEA!

Side note – are they setting up a little relationship for Callie and Hahn? Hmm….Maybe they are just pals, but who knows. Speaking of pals - how cute is the little bromance between Derek and McSteamy? LOVE IT. And Meredith and Derek being apart didn’t really phase me, what about you? More Baiely, please and I’ll be a happy camper. Thoughts?

“Crash Into Me, Part One? Recap

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Sorry for the delay. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I’m puzzled as to why ABC decided to show part one of “Crash Into Me? and then make us wait an extra week for the conclusion. I guess this is all part of the whole strike fallout. They must be trying to stretch the few episodes they have out. But why air it on Thanksgiving? Anyway, let’s discuss.

Bailey’s headed for trouble, y’all. Her husband Tucker is tired of her never being around. It looks as though the Chief was right – making her Chief Resident is hurting her family. And say goodbye to Bailey’s nickname of “Nazi? since she had to operate on a horrible white supremacist. I always thought that was a terrible nickname for her anyway. I think Colonel or something would be more appropriate.

Meanwhile two ambulances crashed into each other and Meredith and the Chief spent the day tending to the two victims. One of which died and the other may not make it, either. I’m pretty sure this caused Meredith to have her moment of clarity about Derek, but I think it’s too late. That ship has sailed and McDreamy is sailing on with his OR nurse.

Ava/Rebecca showed up again. What’s with the random? Either stick around or leave. And poor Lexie – but it’s hard to feel sorry for her when Alex told her straight up he was a dog, but you know, we always think we can change them, don’t we?

And one other thing, I loved that the episode started with Cristina and Meredith dancing. What did I love about it?? That one little moment when Izzie walked by then commented to George that everyone was tired of the Meredith Cristina super secret little friendship club. That cracked me up.

“Forever Young? Recap

Friday, November 16th, 2007

This was a really good one, wasn’t it? I finally felt like I was watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy for season one or two (or the first half of season three). Let’s get to it.

Bailey! Finally, finally, Bailey was heavily featured in an episode and attention Emmy voters, Chandra Wilson’s Emmy reel will be spectacular this year. And I love that she spent most of the episode with George. Those two are always a great pair. Speaking of which, if you watched Private Practice this week, what about Addison helping a scared, reluctant patient with labor exactly like George helped Bailey through hers? Anyway, Bailey fell all over herself when a former high school classmate showed up in the ER. I loved see another side of Miranda or “Mandy.? The self assured surgeon turned into a love struck teenager and even though she saved the guy’s life he still didn’t see her. George called Bailey out on it, too, but instead of giving the guy a long speech as he suggested poor Derek took the brunt of it in the lobby. What a great scene between those two. Wow.

Speaking of Derek…. Derek’s dating now and Meredith is just letting him do it. Derek went out with Sydney and at the end of the episode she let him down gently by telling him she didn’t think he was quite ready for a real relationship. Loved it. A little bit of Sydney goes a long way, but she provided some much needed comic relief last night. Looks like Derek’s new love interest will be the nurse from the OR just as we suspected. And you know what? Good for him. I’m sorry, but I’ve been a die hard Meredith and Derek fan from day one, but if she’s not willing to try, then it’s time to just let it go.

And I hate to say this, because I think Ellen Pompeo is a great actress (remember the scene with Ellis last year before she died?) but seeing Meredith get knocked off her high horse by Lexie was fantastic. Their dad came in all drunk and charming and telling Meredith that he loved her and that he was sorry. Meredith felt better about him and told Lexie to keep a better eye on him. And Lexie tore into her, reminding Meredith that she isn’t the only one in the world in pain and with Daddy issues. It was about time. Again, get into therapy.

What’s up with Cristina? I know she’s never been into the whole friend thing, except with Meredith, but where’s the loyalty? Just because Callie has moved in with her, does that mean she has completely tossed her friendship with George and Izzie aside? I don’t like that one bit. Some of my favorite moments on the show have been when the five interns (now residents) are together. They created a little pseudo family and to see Cristina side with Callie bothers me. But you can’t blame Callie for being pleased to hear that George and Izzie are having problems. I wish that storyline would move forward one way or the other. I know fans are split on which way this should be, but either way, let’s get it going already, because I miss George and Izzie as BFFs, just like they do.

The whole high school theme last night was perfect. I’ve said on here many, many times that these people behave like they are teenagers and it was nice to have it finally acknowledged on the show. Sometimes Grey’s can knock you over the head with the theme, but I thought it was nicely done.

Oh, and Patrick had on the orange bracelet again, love it!

So, thoughts? Did you love it or was it just me?

Kung Fu Fighting Recap

Monday, November 5th, 2007

I had a rough day Thursday and while I got to see Grey’s Anatomy, I honestly can’t recap it in as much depth as I usually do. I was out of town on Friday and haven’t had a chance to post, and I do apologize. I’ll hit a few highlights (of what I remember) and we’ll discuss.

1) Mark and Derek continue to rebuild their friendship. And they spent most of the episode trying to decipher what the Chief meant by “A Gentleman’s Evening.? But Dr. Hahn crashed the party. Looks like she’s going to be a fun addition to the cast.
2) The wedding dress contest was just ridiculous. Here’s a crazy thought? How about cutting the freaking thing in half to separate them. Seriously, ridiculous story line.
3) Mark and Callie are so going to hook up. He tortured George just to make her feel better and they’ve been down that road before, it won’t be long before they revisit that.
4) George and Izzie’s “hot? night didn’t happen. Brace yourselves, Gizzie fans, I just don’t think that’s going to happen.
5) Alex and Lexie, um yeah, we saw that one coming a mile away.
6) Meredith was all up in, on and under my nerves. The parachute guy’s near death experience reminded her of her own near death experience. She spent the whole episode whining about how that feeling that you can do anything was now gone. And yet she still does nothing about it. This girl needs to get in some therapy stat. I just don’t think the MerDer pairing is going to last much longer.

Speaking of which, Patrick Dempsey was quoted on TV Guide’s site saying, “Derek and Meredith’s relationship has gone as far as it can go. I don’t think it’s going to go unless she commits to marrying him or goes into therapy and starts working on herself. We’ll have a cliff-hanger with this last show and there will be a resolve that seems to be permanent.”

I wasn’t feeling this episode very much, but on a bright note, Ugly Betty is still continuing to kick butt. And there’s always the next Grey’s to look forward to!

Thoughts?
