“Piece of my heart” Recap

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

“I could kick your ass right now. Are you letting him go? Derek Christopher Shepherd? Are you letting him go?” – Addison

Exactly. That’s exactly right. Whether you are a die hard Meredith and Derek fan or not, you have to admit Addison has a point.

This was a really good episode. Maybe it was because of all the fun one liners, or maybe it was because no one was really whiny, or maybe it was because of Addison being back. I think it was the whole combination that made for a very enjoyable episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

As far as plot goes, we didn’t move forward too terribly much so let’s discuss by topic.

1) It took Addison to point out that Callie and Hahn were coming across as more than just friends. Paranoid by this question, Callie asks Cristina and Meredith if people ever assume they are lesbians. Meredith replies with probably my favorite line of the night, “No way. We screw boys like whores on tequila.” HA! Loved it. So to prove that she likes boys, Callie hooked up with Mark at the end of the episode. I’m sure you caught that Hahn didn’t seem pleased.
2) Speaking of Hahn – I don’t like her. She does seem overly harsh with Cristiana, but I don’t know what it is about her – I just don’t like her. I wonder how the whole Callie/Hahn thing will shake out?
3) Meredith and Derek worked on their clinical trial and in the end, their patient died. In the middle of the case, Meredith stopped by her shrink to talk about Derek. I think this is progress.
4) Izzie may have gotten her groove back. I love that she acknowledged that she had only been trying to be Cristina or be something she wasn’t and that she needed to figure out who she is.
5) George was laughing and having fun with the other interns. Good for him. I was sick of sad sack George.
6) Bailey didn’t get much screen time but when she did we finally learned that Tucker did move out. Who is she going to lean on when Addison goes back to LA?
7) Speaking of Addison – can she stay? Please? Pretty please. Don’t send her back to her “messy single life” in LA. Does anyone really need to see her on Private Practice all that much?

Oh yeah - Rebecca showed up, said she was pregnant, but Izzie learned that she isn’t really pregnant. All aboard the crazy train!

“Where the Wild Things Are” Recap

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Before we discuss, I have to say I am so glad regular TV is back! And you know I love me some Lost and Ugly Betty, too. It was almost more TV than a poor girl could take for one night.

Is Grey’s of yesterseason back? It felt that way to me. I’ve only heard two other opinions on it so far – my mother said she had a hard time “getting into the episode” and my friend Liesa said she loved it. I’m anxious to hear what the rest of you thought.

The surgical contest was awesome. It finally brought back a little fun to what had become the gloomy, doomy Seattle Grace. Cristina was of course hyper competitive, so was Alex and Izzie. Meredith ended up winning it, but even more interesting was she was inspired by her brain tumor patient to start a clinical research study. Good for her. And speaking of good for her – she’s in therapy! Was anyone else muttering to themselves, “It’s about damn time” when they showed her on the couch? Maybe that was just me.

I liked Izzie in this episode, too. She was trying to find her good instincts again and she is always fun to watch with patients. Cheech Marin turned in a very good performance as her completely fine patient that underwent $120,000 worth of tests so Izzie could win the contest and/or get her instincts back. I’m very pleased that we have moved on from the George/Izzie debacle. (I know some of you wanted them together, but you have to admit, it ended up just being one big ole hot mess).

George finally recognizes his whininess as Lexie struggles to get him to stay in their “crapartment.” But, I do have to admit, it was always kind of fun to see Meredith, Izzie, George and Alex under the same roof. Alex didn’t get much face time last night, but it looks like his turn is coming up next week. Along with the return of Addison. YEA!

Side note – are they setting up a little relationship for Callie and Hahn? Hmm….Maybe they are just pals, but who knows. Speaking of pals - how cute is the little bromance between Derek and McSteamy? LOVE IT. And Meredith and Derek being apart didn’t really phase me, what about you? More Baiely, please and I’ll be a happy camper. Thoughts?

“Crash Into Me, Part One” Recap

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Sorry for the delay. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I’m puzzled as to why ABC decided to show part one of “Crash Into Me” and then make us wait an extra week for the conclusion. I guess this is all part of the whole strike fallout. They must be trying to stretch the few episodes they have out. But why air it on Thanksgiving? Anyway, let’s discuss.

Bailey’s headed for trouble, y’all. Her husband Tucker is tired of her never being around. It looks as though the Chief was right – making her Chief Resident is hurting her family. And say goodbye to Bailey’s nickname of “Nazi” since she had to operate on a horrible white supremacist. I always thought that was a terrible nickname for her anyway. I think Colonel or something would be more appropriate.

Meanwhile two ambulances crashed into each other and Meredith and the Chief spent the day tending to the two victims. One of which died and the other may not make it, either. I’m pretty sure this caused Meredith to have her moment of clarity about Derek, but I think it’s too late. That ship has sailed and McDreamy is sailing on with his OR nurse.

Ava/Rebecca showed up again. What’s with the random? Either stick around or leave. And poor Lexie – but it’s hard to feel sorry for her when Alex told her straight up he was a dog, but you know, we always think we can change them, don’t we?

And one other thing, I loved that the episode started with Cristina and Meredith dancing. What did I love about it?? That one little moment when Izzie walked by then commented to George that everyone was tired of the Meredith Cristina super secret little friendship club. That cracked me up.

“Forever Young” Recap

Friday, November 16th, 2007

This was a really good one, wasn’t it? I finally felt like I was watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy for season one or two (or the first half of season three). Let’s get to it.

Bailey! Finally, finally, Bailey was heavily featured in an episode and attention Emmy voters, Chandra Wilson’s Emmy reel will be spectacular this year. And I love that she spent most of the episode with George. Those two are always a great pair. Speaking of which, if you watched Private Practice this week, what about Addison helping a scared, reluctant patient with labor exactly like George helped Bailey through hers? Anyway, Bailey fell all over herself when a former high school classmate showed up in the ER. I loved see another side of Miranda or “Mandy.” The self assured surgeon turned into a love struck teenager and even though she saved the guy’s life he still didn’t see her. George called Bailey out on it, too, but instead of giving the guy a long speech as he suggested poor Derek took the brunt of it in the lobby. What a great scene between those two. Wow.

Speaking of Derek…. Derek’s dating now and Meredith is just letting him do it. Derek went out with Sydney and at the end of the episode she let him down gently by telling him she didn’t think he was quite ready for a real relationship. Loved it. A little bit of Sydney goes a long way, but she provided some much needed comic relief last night. Looks like Derek’s new love interest will be the nurse from the OR just as we suspected. And you know what? Good for him. I’m sorry, but I’ve been a die hard Meredith and Derek fan from day one, but if she’s not willing to try, then it’s time to just let it go.

And I hate to say this, because I think Ellen Pompeo is a great actress (remember the scene with Ellis last year before she died?) but seeing Meredith get knocked off her high horse by Lexie was fantastic. Their dad came in all drunk and charming and telling Meredith that he loved her and that he was sorry. Meredith felt better about him and told Lexie to keep a better eye on him. And Lexie tore into her, reminding Meredith that she isn’t the only one in the world in pain and with Daddy issues. It was about time. Again, get into therapy.

What’s up with Cristina? I know she’s never been into the whole friend thing, except with Meredith, but where’s the loyalty? Just because Callie has moved in with her, does that mean she has completely tossed her friendship with George and Izzie aside? I don’t like that one bit. Some of my favorite moments on the show have been when the five interns (now residents) are together. They created a little pseudo family and to see Cristina side with Callie bothers me. But you can’t blame Callie for being pleased to hear that George and Izzie are having problems. I wish that storyline would move forward one way or the other. I know fans are split on which way this should be, but either way, let’s get it going already, because I miss George and Izzie as BFFs, just like they do.

The whole high school theme last night was perfect. I’ve said on here many, many times that these people behave like they are teenagers and it was nice to have it finally acknowledged on the show. Sometimes Grey’s can knock you over the head with the theme, but I thought it was nicely done.

Oh, and Patrick had on the orange bracelet again, love it!

So, thoughts? Did you love it or was it just me?

Kung Fu Fighting Recap

Monday, November 5th, 2007

I had a rough day Thursday and while I got to see Grey’s Anatomy, I honestly can’t recap it in as much depth as I usually do. I was out of town on Friday and haven’t had a chance to post, and I do apologize. I’ll hit a few highlights (of what I remember) and we’ll discuss.

1) Mark and Derek continue to rebuild their friendship. And they spent most of the episode trying to decipher what the Chief meant by “A Gentleman’s Evening.” But Dr. Hahn crashed the party. Looks like she’s going to be a fun addition to the cast.
2) The wedding dress contest was just ridiculous. Here’s a crazy thought? How about cutting the freaking thing in half to separate them. Seriously, ridiculous story line.
3) Mark and Callie are so going to hook up. He tortured George just to make her feel better and they’ve been down that road before, it won’t be long before they revisit that.
4) George and Izzie’s “hot” night didn’t happen. Brace yourselves, Gizzie fans, I just don’t think that’s going to happen.
5) Alex and Lexie, um yeah, we saw that one coming a mile away.
6) Meredith was all up in, on and under my nerves. The parachute guy’s near death experience reminded her of her own near death experience. She spent the whole episode whining about how that feeling that you can do anything was now gone. And yet she still does nothing about it. This girl needs to get in some therapy stat. I just don’t think the MerDer pairing is going to last much longer.

Speaking of which, Patrick Dempsey was quoted on TV Guide’s site saying, “Derek and Meredith’s relationship has gone as far as it can go. I don’t think it’s going to go unless she commits to marrying him or goes into therapy and starts working on herself. We’ll have a cliff-hanger with this last show and there will be a resolve that seems to be permanent.”

I wasn’t feeling this episode very much, but on a bright note, Ugly Betty is still continuing to kick butt. And there’s always the next Grey’s to look forward to!

“Haunt You Everyday” Recap

Friday, October 26th, 2007

“You all are like a bunch of little children running around with scalpels, with your inappropriate talk and inappropriate sex…”

And that, my friends, hit the nail on the head for this show we love and love to analyze. I finally remembered that this show has always been about a group of young interns (now residents) trying to find their way in their careers and personal lives. And they screw up – A LOT. And those screw ups are what drive us crazy and what make us continue to watch. Those very conflicts that make us want to scream at the television are what keep Grey’s Anatomy interesting.

Callie told everyone that Izzie and George slept together. Of course the news didn’t go over well and Cristina didn’t hesitate to show her disgust. But Izzie asked Cristina why she and Meredith are such a closed little circle. A little circle that allows mistakes and screw ups for themselves but not for anyone else. Very good point. I like the BFFness of Meredith and Cristina, but I’m tired of both of them riding on their high horses as if they’ve done nothing wrong. How funny was Meredith’s line, “Ok, so you’re in love? As in sexy love? Not sibling love?” LOVE IT. And again, I hate to say it, but I’m having a hard time believing George and Izzie as a couple.

And speaking of adultery and all its sordidness. Rebecca showed back up and fell immediately into bed with Alex. They never really got around to that whole talking thing and she was gone when he came back. But I have a feeling we won’t be seeing the last of her.

Meredith had (as always) issues of her own to deal with, mainly the fact that she brought her mother’s ashes to work in a plastic bag. Um, yeah, creepy. But she spent her whole day arranging a pro bono surgery to build a young boy some ears. (Which, by the way, how believable is it that she didn’t see any patients nor did she manage her interns while she was off doing that). And it was the boy that finally gave her an idea of where to put her mother’s ashes. Meredith talked a big game about moving on and putting her mother behind her, so let’s see if she can actually do it this time. (Not holding my breath).

Dr. Hahn is joining Settle Grace. She’ll be a perfect foil to Cristina. Those two will have lots of fun scenes. I loved that Dr. Hahn just outright accused Cristina of sleeping her way to the top. It’s been quite a while since someone has challenged Yang and I like that. And why in the world would Callie want to move in with Cristina? Random. I didn’t get that at all, are they going to be roommates or will Cristina end up over at Meredith’s, too?

Bailey was featured a bit more in this episode. She’s still struggling with being the wife and mother she wants to be and being the surgeon she wants to be. I love any scene between her and George. She’s always the voice of reason and always tells him what he needs to hear.

Elsewhere Norman had a stroke and Mark put the word out that Derek was ready to date. That MerDer carousel ride we’ve been on since season one? Yeah, here we go again.

The Heart of the Matter Recap

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Finally! Yea! I loved this episode of Grey’s Anatomy. It seems like fans have been longing for the good old days of Grey’s when the show made you laugh and cry in one episode. I think Shonda Rhimes and company finally got back on track last night. And I’ve decided is that I’m going to try and just enjoy each episode and not be so critical of it. No television show is perfect every single week and I shouldn’t expect Grey’s to be, either. So I’m going to let the season unfold and just enjoy the ride!

So last night Derek made friends with Lexie. This was completely inevitable and it irked Cristina to no end. She punished Lexie for bonding with Derek but Derek admonished Cristina for being selfish and unprofessional. I get that Cristina in her twisted way was trying to be on Meredith’s side but she went about it all wrong. And good for Lexie for telling Yang to call her by her name instead of calling her “Three.”

Meredith traded Norman for Saturday off so she could go on a trip with Derek. I wasn’t too sure about Norman last week, but this week? I loved him. He’s just trying to fit in, all saying seriously every two minutes and dude, etc. Too cute. And I loved his relationship with Meredith. Finally, we got to see Meredith interact with someone besides Derek and Cristina. And guess what? She seemed to be a lot less whiny, too.

Of course the big news on the MerDer front was, when confronted about his budding friendship with Lexie, Derek told Meredith he liked that he could talk to Lexie about things. Things like wanting to marry Meredith, have children and grow old together. But, he said he knew Meredith wasn’t ready and he would wait, but he wasn’t sure what would happen if he met someone before she was ready. If that isn’t a wake up call to Meredith, then I don’t know what is. Girl has got to get herself together before it is too late.

The Callie/George/Izzie drama came to a head last night. And hello, Sara Ramirez! Girl can act! I’ve admitted numerous times on this blog that I don’t like Callie, but last night? Yeah, I was feeling her pain. She just wanted to talk to Izzie, but when she got to the cafeteria Izzie put up her dukes to battle for George and it finally dawned on Callie that this wasn’t just a one time fling - George and Izzie have feelings for each other. What about Alex’s reaction to Izzie’s admission of sleeping with George? Ouch. But he’s right – he was married and oh yes, Izzie did tell Alex she wasn’t ready to be with anyone after Denny. Maybe that was the writers way of acknowledging the fan outcry about the George/Izzie pairing and the end of the Izzie/Alex pairing. Gotta love Izzie for reminding Alex that he was no saint either. And from the previews next week it looks like Izzie won’t be the only adulterous one on the show for long.

Thoughts? Did you love it? Was it just me or was this a better episode than we’ve had in a while?

“Let the truth sting” recap

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I liked this episode. I don’t think I even rolled my eyes once and I laughed several times. Charlie, aka “Really Old Man” woke up! I love that they tied up that plot line. How cute was this old man? Seriously. Loved him. He knew all of their secrets and wasn’t afraid to call them out on them. He told Izzie that she was kidding herself to think it would ever work out between her and George. I think this is setting up in the inevitable end of the Gizzie saga. (I could be wrong; I know a lot of you love them together).

Izzie didn’t think that George was ever going to tell Callie and he finally told Izzie to back off. At the end of the episode, Callie asked George to tell her what she already knew and he responded with “I slept with Izzie.” I almost felt sorry for Callie during this episode. I want to like the character and I think I actually might once she’s not with George. And if she’s going to be around Bailey, I’m sure I’ll eventually like her.

Elsewhere Alex was assigned the oldest intern ever. And I have to shout out Edward Hermann of the late great Gilmore Girls. He was fantastic in the role. I wonder how long he’ll be around. Speaking of the interns, are we going to get to know any of them besides Lexie or not? And finally Lexie let her anger out on Meredith and when Meredith whined to Bailey she gave her a reality check. Maybe there is hope for these two yet.

And how happy are we to see Derek in a good mood for a change? Love it. I really loved the scene where he told the Chief and Mark they had no business performing the surgery on that lady’s tongue.

Last thing – Lexie and Alex are so going to hook up. Or at least I thought so until Alex went back to his season one self and told an elevator full that George was repeating his intern year. Ouch.

“Love/Addiction”

Friday, October 5th, 2007

First of all I want to say how interesting it is to me that last night’s Ugly Betty’s title was “Family/Affair” and Grey’s title was “Love/Addiction.” Very clever double meaning for both and I like it. Just a little something for you Betty fans since I know a lot of you also love that show. Now, let’s get right to it.

Meredith, Meredith, Meredith. What a mess this girl is. I’m with those of you that are sort of hating her right now. She has the perfect man (her words) and she KNOWS why she treats him the way she does, but she continues to behave that way. And could she be anymore bitchy to her sister Lexie? The poor girl just wants to have a conversation with her half sister. And I know, I know, Meredith is all “dark and twisty” and complex and whatever, but honestly, it is getting a little old. I love, love, love that Mama returned and put her in her place about her behavior at the wedding – nice.

But Mama was really there to see Cristina. What an interesting dynamic that was. I felt like Mama should have been sitting behind a little paper desk marked “Psychiatric Help 5 Cents.” Anyway, she told Cristina she felt sorry for her that she lost the love of her life but more so she felt sorry for her that she lost a great teacher. Mama told Cristina she was a strong woman and that she’d be ok.

Mama also had a chance to talk to “Burke’s guy” George. Did anyone else wonder about that little speech he made to Mama about Burke? About how maybe Burke dodged a bullet and how he didn’t do anything wrong, etc.? The whole time I kept thinking, wow is he talking about Burke or is he talking about Isaiah Washington? Hmmm….. Anyway, he got his 5 cents of clarity from Mama and determined to tell Callie about his affair with Izzie.

And Izzie. The girl is just a walking, talking piece of guilt. She loves George and is ecstatic he loves her. But she can’t deal with him breaking up with Callie. She spends the whole day fumbling around and finally tells Callie she thinks she is doing a great job. And the light finally went off in Callie’s head about the affair. Fireworks should be forthcoming. Does anyone here like Callie? I just don’t care for her at all and I really am not even sure why.

Speaking of those I don’t care for and don’t know why – Mark. He’s still around and I guess he’s going to go back to being Derek’s pal. (I will admit that was very cute last week when he told Derek he came back for him). And he’s trying to help Derek break the Meredith cycle, but Derek isn’t ready to beat that addiction just yet.

Bailey is awesome. She’s still struggling with not being in charge but I love that she still finds ways to work around that. And that scene with Alex? Fantastic. Chandra Wilson is a great actress. I like Alex y’all, but can he just shave? Seriously.

“A Change Is Gonna Come”

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Ok, gang, let’s discuss! What did you think? Instead of a full on recap, I’ll give you a few of my thoughts and you do the same, ok?

- It is so not over for MerDer just yet. I loved Derek telling off Mark in the OR. Those two will eventually work it out.
- I loved the lighter tone of the show. It reminded me of the early days when everything wasn’t such a downer.
- Our little interns are now residents and they have no idea how to manage their own interns. Of course Meredith would get George as an intern.
- Lexie is pretty much the anti-Meredith. The non-dark and twisty Meredith. I actually kind of like her. And it looks like she’ll have a fun friendship with George.
- Speaking of George - what a funk he’s in. But, he told Izzie he loved her. So, I think once he breaks up with Callie, things will promptly fall apart with Izzie. They just don’t work.
- Izzie saved a deer’s life. But you know what? That’s just who she is - the quintessential dreamer/believer and you really can’t fault her for that. Someone’s gotta believe you know?
- Alex drove up in Rebecca’s “general direction” but apparently didn’t see her? And please shave, seriously.
- Bailey - I love her. Just love her. She’s still pissed she isn’t Chief Resident, but I think she finally got why the Chief didn’t give her the job.
- Are they ever going to make McSteamy likable? I’m just saying.
- And Christina misses Burke. I kind of do, too.

“Didn’t We Almost Have It All” Recap

Friday, May 18th, 2007

As far as Grey’s Anatomy shows go, this was a very good one - it left us hanging, resolved some questions, packed an emotional wallop and was even funny in parts. As a season finale goes, well, creator Shonda Rhimes will always have a hard time topping last year’s for me (Denny died, the prom, etc.) I find it very interesting that the “intern year” has lasted THREE seasons. All of the action of the entire series has been over the course of one year. But let’s discuss…

So everyone was right - the girl at the bar that hit on Derek was Meredith’s sister. Predictable much? Derek tells Meredith he could never leave her, but if she wasn’t really in it, then she needed to put him out of his misery. Who could blame him? I used to be a hardcore Mer/Der fan, but this season, I’m pretty much over it. I like Meredith sometimes and I hate her sometimes.

Richard finds out the baby that Adele lost was his. She tells him after he finally steps up for her and sees her through the surgery. Derek turned down the Chief of Surgery job and told Richard to keep it. But can he handle the job and his family this time around?

Speaking of, I was surprised that superstar Bailey didn’t get Chief Resident. I’m sure this was Richard’s way of telling her AGAIN not to make the same mistakes he did. Bailey was sorely underused this season. I’m hoping to see more of her next year. That scene with her and George was sweet and terribly depressing.

So George failed his exam. Part of me wondered last week if he would fail it on purpose. I wondered that because he specifically said, “All I have to do is pass my test and I’m out of here.” Well, he failed it, so technically, he could choose to stay at Seattle Grace and repeat his intern year. (Again, hopefully it won’t span three seasons). On top of all that, he is drowning in guilt and will do pretty much anything Callie wants him to do. Including having a baby, which couldn’t be a worse choice at this point.

So George and Izzie – I know some of you love them together and some of you hate them together. I fall somewhere in between, I guess. I have to give Izzie props, for telling George how she feels. That girl never holds back and I like that about her. I don’t think she will end up with George long term, but he’ll be back next season. I just can’t imagine they would write him out at this point.

Addison is all set to go off to LA for Private Practice. I loved that she got up in Richard’s face about the job, though. It was good to see someone fired up about something last night. Most everyone else seemed to be a Debbie Downer for the entire episode. I’ll miss her on Grey’s. I was glad we got one final scene with Alex and Addison and she told him not to waste a chance with Rebecca.

Seriously? I mean, seriously? Two seasons in a row, two interns fall in love with patients? I thought that would be too easy. And yes, I saw it coming from a mile away, but when Rebecca encouraged Alex to hook up with Addison, I thought she was the one not interested. Need some new plot devices, y’all, seriously. It particularly irked me after Alex ripped Izzie a new one last season for falling for Denny. And then he goes and does the same thing?

Burke and Christina. I knew the wedding wouldn’t happen, but I was surprised that he called it off and not her. When he repeated his vows in the OR, I knew we wouldn’t get to hear them otherwise. I don’t know what to make of Christina finding out that he left and screaming with joy that she was free only to collapse in tears. Is he really gone? I really like him on the show. (In real life, not so much and I did think he got off easy for his behavior on and off the set – not once but TWICE.) I tell you what I really like and what has turned out to be the most stable relationship on the show – the Derek and Burke friendship. McSteamy is simply wasting screen time and if we’re left with him, Derek, the Chief and Alex as the dudes on the show, suddenly it ain’t so interesting.

What did I miss? What did you think? Let me know.

,

“I’m becoming an inappropriate freak”

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Ok, LOTS to discuss. First, a few general thoughts about how this all played out with the spin off and mother ship. I don’t really think it worked well to have the spin off cut and pasted into Grey’s. It was jarring to me to go from Tim Daly (hot, by the way) and back to Alex and Jane Doe. It just didn’t fit together. And I realize it wasn’t supposed to, but it would have been better to run an hour of Grey’s then run an hour of the spin off.

Let’s talk Grey’s 1.0 first. All in all, this wasn’t the best episode of the season – not by a long shot. And I have a sneaky feeling it wasn’t that great because the focus needed to be on Addison and her spin off. So anyway, Jane Doe/Ava and Mark both berated Alex for his treatment of Addison. Mark told Derek he knew Alex and Addison had slept together so he bowed out to keep Addison from feeling guilty. Meanwhile, Derek has got problems of his own. I’m not usually a big Meredith fan, but props to her for telling him the truth and that she feels like she’s finally changed and she asked him to not give up just yet. But oh, the drama came when her stepmother was treated for innocent hiccups that turned into a serious infection. Meredith repeatedly told her father everything would be fine and when her stepmother died, daddy dearest took it out on Meredith’s face. Even though I knew this all was coming, I still winced in pain when it happened. Here’s my question – why would Meredith be treating her stepmom? She shouldn’t have had anything to do with the case. And why would the Chief let her tell her father the bad news? So Meredith goes home and does what she does – self medicates with tequila. Derek stops by, looks in the window, and gets that look in his eye and leaves.

Christina and Burke are in full on wedding planning and both of their moms show up. Christina finally concedes to bridesmaids, a big white dress, the chapel and all of it. Burke’s mom still seems unconvinced and Burke was having serious doubts, too. I’m getting a sinking feeling it might not work out, y’all. Who knows, though? I do find them entertaining as a couple, so I am rooting for them. And the Callie/ Christina scene was funny.

So George seems set to leave Seattle Grace and Callie seems all for it. Izzie thinks the whole thing sucks because she’s about to lose her best friend. In the elevator they kiss again. How much longer until Callie puts the pieces together? It seems to me like George is about two minutes away from filing for divorce. But can he and Izzie actually have a relationship or not?

Now for Grey’s 2.0.

Addison goes to California to visit her med school friends Sam and Naomi. And pretty much when she gets there all kinds of chaos and crazy happen. This show will definitely have a different vibe – but I wonder if they were trying a bit too hard for the quirkiness. It did look much easier on the eyes – sunshine, brighter colors, etc. If you think about it, Grey’s is pretty much a palette of whites and greys (ha) with the exception of some pretty eyes that the boys have on them. Anyway, I really loved getting to see another side of Addison and was shocked that she found out she couldn’t have kids. Didn’t see that coming at all. There were too many characters to keep up with since we also had to keep up with 11 series regulars over on the original. But initial thoughts – Cooper – the pediatrician and the screw up; Violet – the shrink, who –wait for it – is screwed up in the head (cliché); Naomi – the fertility doc who got dumped for no reason and has zero fun; Dale – (or Piz for you Veronica Mars fans) the eye candy receptionist crushing on Naomi; Sam – screwed up his marriage for no reason; Pete – “the quack” who is still grieving for his wife. So pretty much - they are all screwed up. Hopefully the pilot just showed an exaggeration of these flaws and it won’t be like this every week.

All in all, it was interesting. There were very funny parts – the elevator talking back to Addison, the acupuncture, the Diet Coke commercial – I mean, the ladies watching Dale get ready to surf. (Was anyone else seriously disturbed by the slow motion of him walking? I don’t know - something about it bothered me, I sort of felt like I was watching Cinemax instead of ABC. But I would have been totally fine with the slow mo walk with Taye Diggs or Tim Daly). The Mrs. Robinson reference was cute. The subtle nods to the fans, “Ok, let’s never Mc anything” were good, too. Addison has come a long way from the salmon-colored-scrubs-wearing “adulterous bitch,” hasn’t she? So I liked it, but didn’t love it. I’ll be anxious to see where it goes.

And I’m anxious to know what you thought…

“Desire” Recap

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Great episode. Seriously great. I laughed, teared up and gasped!

Derek? WTF? He is pushing Meredith away because the chief said he can’t have it all - a relationship and the job. But again, so Burke can have it all? I guess it all boils down to Richard looking out for Meredith. And I’m sure it is true that Derek wants Meredith to “breathe” on her own, but it seems to me that he’s using the drowning drama as a cover up for what’s he’s really mad about - Meredith potentially keeping him from getting the job he wants. And then she just gets up and leaves? Here’s a crazy thought, kids, TALK ABOUT IT.

But I think the whole chief thing is a moot point anyway (or a “moo point, you know, a cow’s opinion” for you Friends fans) because go ahead and grab a Snickers, Richard’s not going anywhere for a while. The chairman of the board lit a fire under him last night, so I think he’s staying.

So Jane Doe bounces on back and lets Alex know that Addison is into him. LOVED the exchange between Addison and Callie - “he’s about 12″ HA! Addison wants the guy that will barbecue and teach the kids baseball, but Callie tells her that guy will be Alex after his twenties. After Jane Doe crashes and they deliver the baby, Addison goes for it. It was about time.

Did anyone feel the slightest bit sorry for McSteamy when he caught them coming out of the call room together? I didn’t. Like he told Addison later, “Once a manwhore, always a manwhore.” Seriously - do something with his character or boot him. He’s taking up space.

And just when we think Alex has changed, damn it, he hasn’t. That was a brutal brush off he gave Addison at the end of the day. She definitely deserves better. And who will blame her for going to LA to get in the middle of a Tim Daly/Taye Diggs manwich?

Goorge and Izzie are back to the dream team/normal pals thing. But Callie knows something is up. She doesn’t know the whole truth yet, but she’s about 2 seconds from figuring it out. And of course Addison gave her a huge hint. Callie finally confronted Izzie and told her to back off because she wanted her husband back. A tearful Izzie consoled herself with cake and she even confessed to Burke what she had done. George decides to transfer to Mercy West to get away from Izzie. But, um, hello? Won’t that be a big huge red flag that something actually is going on to Callie? Or scratch that, it would be a giant, neon flashing BILLBOARD that something actually happened. And no, I don’t think he’ll go.

Will the Burktina wedding really happen? Poor Burke is relying on Christina’s friends to help with the details. Will she really do it or not?

Could we get more Bailey, please. I’m tired of her being a secondary character. She is one of the most complex characters on the show and I hope next year she gets more screen time.

So they set up the spin off very well last night. I’m anxious to see it. Looks like Meredith’s big slap is coming next week, too.

Talk to me, I know you have opinions…

Recap

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Finally a new episode! And I was not disappointed. Here are the highlights, so let’s discuss…

Izzie went to confession. George continued to avoid Izzie but got all up in Bailey’s face when he found out something was going on with her. I loved that little exchange of him saying, “I demand to know where she is!” and Bailey saying, “I know you didn’t just say you DEMAND to me.” I love Bailey. Plan and simple. I love the Bailey and Izzie relationship.

Izzie chose to donate bone marrow to her daughter, even though Hannah didn’t want to meet her. When George finally figured out where she was, he raced up to her. Whether or not these two are meant to be together, there’s no denying the strength of their friendship. Of course by being with Izzie, George stood Callie up once again. How much more is that girl going to take before she realizes that marriage is over?

Derek was fired up about getting the job as Chief. He told Richard he was promised the job and he expected his support. Richard told him he didn’t want a job that would consume him. And he told Derek he promised Ellis he would look after Meredith. So now his chances of getting the job aren’t looking so good. Meanwhile, did they forget that Richard promised the job to Burke, too? And why should Derek’s relationship be a stumbling block to the job for him, while no one seems to care about Burke and Christina? This is going to be a bad turn of events for Meredith and Derek. First he had to choose between Addison and Meredith and now he’s going to have to choose between his career and Meredith? How much more can he take? I love that he asked Bailey for advice. I have always liked their relationship, too. Remember in season 1 when she stopped the elevator so he could cry?

By the way, I was glad Meredith was barely in the episode. But when she was in there she got all up on my nerves. We know you still have daddy issues, but there’s no need to be so ugly to your stepmother when she is trying to help you. I was glad the stepmom (what’s her name?) showed back up and gave Meredith a piece of her mind. It looked like they came to a little understanding, too, so hopefully we can move on from that.

Goodbye Marlowe! I pretty much hated his storyline. It seemed like merely a contrived plot device to get Christina to realize she needs Burke.

Jane Doe’s parents came to claim her, but she ended up not being their daughter. Sad.

Addison at the bar dancing with the Chief? Loved it. See, this is why I’m going to miss her with these characters.

Katherine Heigl turned in a brilliant performance. So did Elizabeth Reaser.

Thoughts?

Ok, so I watched it

Wow. Wow, wow, wow.

So Izzie thinks it is the start of something good and George of course, being married and all, wants to forget it ever happened. Wow.

I felt for Izzie in this episode. She was the one that remembered and she was the one that thought it was more than a stupid mistake. Could this girl get her heart broken any more? And what about Callie? She’s going to have a broken heart, too, when she finds out George cheated on her. And you know she will find out.

The thing I love about this show is that even in dire situations, there is always a bit of fun to be had. I loved when Izzie just blurted it out to Addison and Addison says, “What am I? the go to person for adultery?” Too funny. Again, I have to point out that I’ll miss her on this show.

And Derek? Derek is messed up with worry, y’all. He can’t get over that Meredith let herself almost drown. When the series first started he was sharp and focused on becoming the next Chief and now he says, “A 10 year plan? I don’t know about 10 years from now.” Ouch. What’s going on there? Is he getting soft or just realizing that his future life doesn’t include being Chief?

And meanwhile Meredith won’t deal with any of it. She’s saying she is fine and she’s going about her business. In the process Mark is using her to make himself look good. Although Mark did have a point, if she proved herself in surgery, Richard might stop looking at her like she’s a wounded puppy.

The attendings all lined up to interview for the Chief job. I have a sneaky feeling Richard won’t be giving that spot up so soon, though. I hope not, at least. I like him.

And Callie’s dad showed. Yawn. I do like Hector Elizando, though.

And Burke and Christina seem to have gotten on the same page again. But did I miss the part when she told him she changed her mind and wouldn’t be marrying him solely to please him? Because to me, that’s how she still feels, right? Did she say otherwise?

Now what did you guys think?
