Ham or Eggs?
Friday, November 3rd, 2006I seriously love this show. Seriously. Last night’s episode was a great mix of humor and drama and once again it did not disappoint.
My favorite scene was at the beginning. It is Izzie’s first day back and she is too distracted to play best friend to George. Something is bothering Christina and she is too busy to listen to Meredith. Meredith and George stop the elevator and play a little role reversal: Meredith becomes Izzie and George complains that Callie dumped him and he doesn’t know what to do. Meredith channels Izzie and says seriously about 18 times and gives George a bit of hope. George returns the favor as Meredith tells “Christina” about finding Derek fresh from the shower with another woman. George gets the best line of the night, “That McBastard!” Too funny.
Turns out the woman was Derek’s overbearing and annoying sister Nancy. Mark and Addison and sure happy to see her, though. But she was too much for me. Hope she doesn’t come back for another visit anytime soon. She did get Derek to think about his future and told him to take some time for himself because he had never been single. (gee, wonder why?) And Derek told Meredith he needed exactly that and she smiled and agreed. Nice. This was a nice, no jumping through hoops development.
Meanwhile, Christina is buy arranging all of Burke’s surgeries and studying up for them since she has to be in ALL of them to help him since he still has hand tremors. The pressure becomes too much for her and she is racked with guilt when she removes Bailey from the OR board on the humpty dumpty surgery. Bailey figured out in the end that Christina did it – after spending the whole day agonizing that Burke had lost his confidence in her abilities.
Speaking of which, the Chief told Bailey that some of the doctors were concerned about her judgement since Izzie was her intern and the Denny fiasco happened on her watch. Bailey was clearly rattled, and Bailey doesn’t get rattled. It seems to me that the Chief is only around to give commentary to everyone and about everyone nowadays. Didn’t he used to be a surgeon?
Izzie is assigned to Meredith with the strict instructions to observe and not say or do anything. Their patient (the fabulous actress that was Irene on “Two Guys and A Girl”) purposefully burned her hand to avoid taking the bar exam for a fifth time. Izzie picked up on it right away and Meredith did not. I think Izzie is closer to finding her place – she doesn’t need to be a surgeon, she needs to be a social worker, a counselor or something similar. We’ll see.
Alex was also pondering his future as McTool (sorry, y’all, I just am not a fan) gave him the assignment to stay on hold with the DMV instead of scrubbing in on plastic surgeries. When Addison and George’s patient interested him he scrubbed in and ended up saving another baby by helping soothe her so Addison could do surgery. Alex has found his calling. It’ll be interesting to see if he fights it or not. And how will he handle finding out that Callie and McSteamy slept together? I have a feeling the old Alex will use that little bit of info to his advanatge. A zebra can’t change its strips, right? And I have a feeling this will come on the heels of George telling Callie he is ready to “catch” her.
Talk to me – what did you think?
