Spoilers and Theories

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I just read some interesting information on tomorrow night’s episode. The title is “Kung Fu Fighting.” Of course November is a sweeps month, which means this month’s episodes of Grey’s Anatomy should raise the bar. Sweeps months are used to help set advertising rates for shows. Remember to set those Tivos and DVRs for seven extra minutes because the show will be longer. So here’s the latest scoop I’ve rounded up across the web for you guys.

Tomorrow night two people will sleep together. These two people have never been “romantically linked before.” Oh and Meredith will catch them in the act.

We know from the preview tagged onto last week’s episode that George and Izzie will be hooking up, but who else could it be? Lexie and Mark? Cristina and Mark? Lexie and Derek? Mark and Dr. Hahn? (By the way, those two becoming an item is also a new rumor). And there is a theory that it might even be Alex and Lexie. Which I completely believed would happen until that scene where Alex told the other interns that George was a “repeater.” She looked disgusted, but hey, if we know anything about Alex, we know he repulses them first and charms them later. What do you think??

We know Joshua Jackson will be joining the show in January starting with Episode 11. Some of you think he’ll be Izzie’s new love interest, but what about Cristina? Or even Lexie? No matter which way it shakes out, I’m looking forward to having him on the show. Even though I didn’t watch Dawson’s Creek. I know, I know, how could I have not watched it? I don’t get it, either. Ha.

“Love/Addiction”

Friday, October 5th, 2007

First of all I want to say how interesting it is to me that last night’s Ugly Betty’s title was “Family/Affair” and Grey’s title was “Love/Addiction.” Very clever double meaning for both and I like it. Just a little something for you Betty fans since I know a lot of you also love that show. Now, let’s get right to it.

Meredith, Meredith, Meredith. What a mess this girl is. I’m with those of you that are sort of hating her right now. She has the perfect man (her words) and she KNOWS why she treats him the way she does, but she continues to behave that way. And could she be anymore bitchy to her sister Lexie? The poor girl just wants to have a conversation with her half sister. And I know, I know, Meredith is all “dark and twisty” and complex and whatever, but honestly, it is getting a little old. I love, love, love that Mama returned and put her in her place about her behavior at the wedding – nice.

But Mama was really there to see Cristina. What an interesting dynamic that was. I felt like Mama should have been sitting behind a little paper desk marked “Psychiatric Help 5 Cents.” Anyway, she told Cristina she felt sorry for her that she lost the love of her life but more so she felt sorry for her that she lost a great teacher. Mama told Cristina she was a strong woman and that she’d be ok.

Mama also had a chance to talk to “Burke’s guy” George. Did anyone else wonder about that little speech he made to Mama about Burke? About how maybe Burke dodged a bullet and how he didn’t do anything wrong, etc.? The whole time I kept thinking, wow is he talking about Burke or is he talking about Isaiah Washington? Hmmm….. Anyway, he got his 5 cents of clarity from Mama and determined to tell Callie about his affair with Izzie.

And Izzie. The girl is just a walking, talking piece of guilt. She loves George and is ecstatic he loves her. But she can’t deal with him breaking up with Callie. She spends the whole day fumbling around and finally tells Callie she thinks she is doing a great job. And the light finally went off in Callie’s head about the affair. Fireworks should be forthcoming. Does anyone here like Callie? I just don’t care for her at all and I really am not even sure why.

Speaking of those I don’t care for and don’t know why – Mark. He’s still around and I guess he’s going to go back to being Derek’s pal. (I will admit that was very cute last week when he told Derek he came back for him). And he’s trying to help Derek break the Meredith cycle, but Derek isn’t ready to beat that addiction just yet.

Bailey is awesome. She’s still struggling with not being in charge but I love that she still finds ways to work around that. And that scene with Alex? Fantastic. Chandra Wilson is a great actress. I like Alex y’all, but can he just shave? Seriously.

Alex and Ava (Rebecca)

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

We’ve all heard the news that Rebecca (Elizabeth Reaser) is scheduled to come back to Grey’s Anatomy this season for another arc on the show. It seems pretty obvious to me that she’s coming back for Alex. One of the great things about Grey’s Anatomy is they never really close a door (well, unless you’re Denny) and there’s always a chance to see someone again. So how do we feel about her return?

What a long way the character of Alex has come since the show started. When the show first started Alex was a pompous jerk and seemingly would serve as only a one note character – a foil to the other interns. But as time went on, he began to change. I like him now and am happy to say I no longer want to call him “McTool.” I was actually rooting for him and Izzie at the beginning. (Those two are responsible for some of my favorite funny moments – “Literally take off your pants” and the kiss in the bar – “Seriously”) And who knows, that might come back up again. But, I really wanted to see him with Addison. It bothered me to no end that they had to tie up that story very quickly to set up Addison’s move to LA. And yes, they by far had the best couple name – Addisex. One quick call room visit and the big brush off and that was done.

And it is beyond ironic that Alex has fallen for a patient after raking Izzie over the coals for falling for Denny. And yes, I know, Alex didn’t go to extreme measure the way Izzie did. But I am interested in seeing how this whole thing plays out – has Alex grown up? Will Rebecca leave her husband for him? Thoughts?

“Didn’t We Almost Have It All” Recap

Friday, May 18th, 2007

As far as Grey’s Anatomy shows go, this was a very good one - it left us hanging, resolved some questions, packed an emotional wallop and was even funny in parts. As a season finale goes, well, creator Shonda Rhimes will always have a hard time topping last year’s for me (Denny died, the prom, etc.) I find it very interesting that the “intern year” has lasted THREE seasons. All of the action of the entire series has been over the course of one year. But let’s discuss…

So everyone was right - the girl at the bar that hit on Derek was Meredith’s sister. Predictable much? Derek tells Meredith he could never leave her, but if she wasn’t really in it, then she needed to put him out of his misery. Who could blame him? I used to be a hardcore Mer/Der fan, but this season, I’m pretty much over it. I like Meredith sometimes and I hate her sometimes.

Richard finds out the baby that Adele lost was his. She tells him after he finally steps up for her and sees her through the surgery. Derek turned down the Chief of Surgery job and told Richard to keep it. But can he handle the job and his family this time around?

Speaking of, I was surprised that superstar Bailey didn’t get Chief Resident. I’m sure this was Richard’s way of telling her AGAIN not to make the same mistakes he did. Bailey was sorely underused this season. I’m hoping to see more of her next year. That scene with her and George was sweet and terribly depressing.

So George failed his exam. Part of me wondered last week if he would fail it on purpose. I wondered that because he specifically said, “All I have to do is pass my test and I’m out of here.” Well, he failed it, so technically, he could choose to stay at Seattle Grace and repeat his intern year. (Again, hopefully it won’t span three seasons). On top of all that, he is drowning in guilt and will do pretty much anything Callie wants him to do. Including having a baby, which couldn’t be a worse choice at this point.

So George and Izzie – I know some of you love them together and some of you hate them together. I fall somewhere in between, I guess. I have to give Izzie props, for telling George how she feels. That girl never holds back and I like that about her. I don’t think she will end up with George long term, but he’ll be back next season. I just can’t imagine they would write him out at this point.

Addison is all set to go off to LA for Private Practice. I loved that she got up in Richard’s face about the job, though. It was good to see someone fired up about something last night. Most everyone else seemed to be a Debbie Downer for the entire episode. I’ll miss her on Grey’s. I was glad we got one final scene with Alex and Addison and she told him not to waste a chance with Rebecca.

Seriously? I mean, seriously? Two seasons in a row, two interns fall in love with patients? I thought that would be too easy. And yes, I saw it coming from a mile away, but when Rebecca encouraged Alex to hook up with Addison, I thought she was the one not interested. Need some new plot devices, y’all, seriously. It particularly irked me after Alex ripped Izzie a new one last season for falling for Denny. And then he goes and does the same thing?

Burke and Christina. I knew the wedding wouldn’t happen, but I was surprised that he called it off and not her. When he repeated his vows in the OR, I knew we wouldn’t get to hear them otherwise. I don’t know what to make of Christina finding out that he left and screaming with joy that she was free only to collapse in tears. Is he really gone? I really like him on the show. (In real life, not so much and I did think he got off easy for his behavior on and off the set – not once but TWICE.) I tell you what I really like and what has turned out to be the most stable relationship on the show – the Derek and Burke friendship. McSteamy is simply wasting screen time and if we’re left with him, Derek, the Chief and Alex as the dudes on the show, suddenly it ain’t so interesting.

What did I miss? What did you think? Let me know.

Kate Walsh Rocks New Arm Candy

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I really am bummed to learn that Kate Walsh isn’t dating “Brothers and Sisters” hottie Dave Annabele. Oh well. According to People, Kate is dating Alex Young, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox, whose blockbuster credits include X-Men: The Last Stand and Fantastic Four. I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to date in the public eye. Good luck to them.

The Clip Show

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

So I didn’t ask you guys last week - what did you think of the clip show? My favorite part, of course, was the “Seriously” montage. I thought it was a well done show and it reminded me of so many funny and memorable things that I had forgotten. Favorite one of those being Bailey - “I may be 47 months pregnant but that doesn’t mean I don’t see everything, hear everything and know everything.” LOVE IT. Didn’t love the new video and song by Brandi Carlile, though. Thoughts?

Prepare yourselves

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

So I’m hearing rumors that

SPOILER AHEAD

George and Izzie fall in love and will be in full on relationship mode.

I can hear some of you screaming and some of you cheering. I’ve read a bunch of stuff online about this particular pairing and I find it interesting that it seems to be divided between those that loathe the two of them together and those that love them together. Those that hate it say, ew, they are best friends. And those that love it say, yea! best friends in love, what could be better.

I don’t hate the idea. I’m curious to see how it plays out. I did hate, hate, HATE the awkwardness that was the Meredith and George hook up. But the Izzie thing? Doesn’t bother me - not yet anyway. And I did really love Izzie and Alex together, so I hate to see that door shut (even if it is temporary), but they never had a relationship, did they? They just had sex, right? We haven’t gotten to see Izzie in a relationship with a man that wasn’t in a hospital bed, so I’m curious to see that.

I trust the writers. Check out last week’s writer’s blog. She talks about the George and Izzie thing and how they thought it might work. Since George and Izzie’s best relationship is with each other, why wouldn’t they at least consider it?

So, why was it ok for Chandler and Monica to fall in love on Friends, but it isn’t ok for George and Izzie? I never saw the brother sister vibe between them, so it doesn’t seem all that icky to me. (And yes, I feel for Callie, but he was never as invested in the relationship as she was. She will be a good match for McSteamy when Addy is gone).

I know you guys all have strong opinions, so let me hear them!

Who’s Your Favorite Grey’s Character?

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Hey all! Amy’s dealing with a death in the family, so I’m pinch-writing for a few days. My name’s Allison, and you may know me from some other 451 Press sites. I’m the writer for Reality on Bravo and Find Religion.

Just to give you a little GA-background about me: I didn’t watch a single episode while Grey’s was in its first season, but some friends were having a party for the second season premier, so I decide to attend. I was immediately HOOKED! Since then, I’ve caught up with the first season and haven’t missed an episode since the bomb episodes.

My personal favorite character has got to be Izzie. Her Denny storyline was amazing and she always has the best monologues. I find more of myself in Christine, actually, but Izzie is the type of person I usually strive to be. She’s funny, sensitive, and gives great advice (well, to everyone but herself!). I’m really excited to see how the George/Callie/Izzie mess will play out!

I’m sure Amy would love to come back to a million comments, so tell me, readers: Who is your favorite character and why?

Did Grey’s jump the shark last night?

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Well, I’ve talked to some diehard fans this morning and the consensus seems to be that we were disappointed with last night’s episode. It was just too much. I will admit, the show did manage to pull at my heart strings a bit with the Christina thing, but otherwise, come on. A whole episode with Meredith between life and death? The girl bleeding out? Izzie continuing to be a bitch to George? How could Meredith not be brain dead? And as soon as they revived her, they raised the bed up and ALL walked out except for Christina? COME ON. I’ll still love the show and watch the show, but this wasn’t a good turn of events for me.

I think all great shows go through a period when they are so hugely popular that no matter what they do, there is backlash. Think back to Friends and the post Super Bowl episodes - those 6 were on all the magazine covers, Entertainment Tonight, Leno, Letterman, had huge ratings and then the backlash came. It sort of became uncool to be a huge fan of the show for a while. Fans couldn’t be satisified with storylines - we wanted Ross and Rachel together and when they broke up, we were pissed. Same with ER, same with The OC. And even such an awesome show as Lost is currently facing the same thing - fan backlash for the ridiculously long hiatus, etc.

And now Grey’s. Spinning off the show is just too much. It’s going to hurt the show. Last night probably hurt the show with some viewers. What do you think - did they jump the shark? If so, do you really care? Like I said, I’ll still love the show and watch every week, but I do think this was the wrong direction to go in - the whole Meredith drowning bit was a bad idea.

What’s going on?

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

I’m about to discuss an upcoming plot point that I think is fairly obvious and well known, but if you’re a spoiler-phobe, look away now.

So, I always make a point to read the writer’s blog for Grey’s Anatomy. I was very surprised to learn that this past episode was written by Shonda Rhimes. Now, y’all know I’m a big Shonda fan, but I think last week’s episode was subpar. In her blog she talks about how difficult it was for her to write the episode and how the director started shooting without a script. Maybe this explains it. And she drops a hint that a major character is going to die. The way its written, we’re supposed to believe its Meredith. But I don’t think I buy it. Do you? Kristin at E! keeps saying that the death will be very shocking and you’ll never believe they would do it.

So who’s kicking it, gang? Burke would be the obvious choice, but he’s not in danger - not yet. (And yes, I like his character but have a hard time watching without thinking what a tool he is in real life). What about McDreamy? Chances are he’s jumping in there after Meredith. That would certainly be shocking.

Do you see the point in killing a character? I really don’t. There’s enough drama without offing someone else. This ain’t Lost, after all.

Check out Shonda’s post.

The debut of Addisex

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Oh come on, that is a fantastic couple name for Addison/Alex don’t you think? And no, I can’t take credit for it. So let’s recap, shall we?

Mr. O’Malley wasn’t getting any better. George figured out that the Chief and Bailey had proceeded with the surgery even though they shouldn’t have. Angry, he confronted them and cried as he realized his dad had insisted they do the surgery. (Um, hello, Emmy’s, meet TR Knight). George’s family had to decide whether or not to take his dad off the ventilator and they did. What a sad scene that was. Come to think of it, the whole show was sad last night.

Elsewhere, Izzie donated the money for the girl to have the spine surgery. Bailey asked her if she paid the money to scrub in. When Izzie said no, she paid the money to help another human being, Bailey told her she must decide if she was a surgeon or a person who wants to help and gets emotionally involved. After seeing George go through so much pain in losing his dad, she told Bailey she was both and that she wouldn’t apologize for it. I loved that. I also love that we are seeing some similarities between Bailey and Izzie. The “Nazi” and Izzie are both softies. It’s just that Izzie shows it and Bailey most often does not. I needed a minute, too, after Bailey performed that procedure on Mr. O’Malley. I think everyone watching needed a breath.

Meredith is still struggling with daddy issues. She did ask Thatcher why he left. He stuttered something about Ellis telling him not to call, etc. It wasn’t much of an explanation, but I guess it was better than nothing. Meredith asked him if he snored and he said yes. He told her to get wax ear plugs and she gave some to Derek.

Burke and Christina continued their stupid silence. After learning of Mr. O’Malley’s death, Burke decided to give in and he said he had not had any tremors at all.

Of course the big news was that Addison was pregnant 8 months ago with Mark’s child and she had an abortion. He marked the date on the calendar and had gone out and bought the child a Yankees outfit. Mark told Addison he would have been a great father and asked her why she didn’t want a child. She tearfully told him she wanted Derek at the time and she did not want a child with him. He was still cheating on her even after he learned she was pregnant. Wow. The weight of it all was eating Addison and Mark alive throughout the episode. Mark asked Callie if she thought he would have been a good father. He finally admitted he would have been terrible. And then the big moment - despite apologizing to Alex about the near kiss, at the end, in the bar, she kissed him.

So, now starts the era of Addisex. Yea! Looks like Callie and George are getting back together. (But as my friend Lauren pointed out, they totally can’t get married because she would be “Callie O’Malley” HA!). Izzie is finally ready to be a surgeon again and it looks like she is going to use that money for wonderful things. Burke and Christina look to be getting back on track. And now that the snoring issue is resolved (sort of) maybe we’ll get to see MerDer talking about something else. And what’s to become of Mark? Will he continue to be a one note, villian, or will we start to see another side of him like we have Alex and Addison?

“I’m tired of you men acting like boys”

Friday, December 1st, 2006

A few discussion points:

1)Isn’t Addison an ob/gyn surgeon? If so, why in the world would she be performing intestinal surgery on a newborn? That’s what pediatric surgeons are for.

2)Did Meredith’s constant sticking up for Christina drive you nuts? Or was that just me?

3)Finally, more Bailey! Is she right – should Christina be punished just as severely as Izzie?

4)How did Burke go to being Derek’s best guy pal, all camping in the woods, etc. a few weeks ago, to hating him for screwing up his hand?

5) George needs to chill. I’m tired of angry George (even if it is justified anger).

6) Anything else?

Traditional TV is a changin’

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

It’s no secret that the way we watch TV has drastically changed in the last several years. Just in my lifetime, I’ve gone from the big huge TV with the heavy button you had to turn to get 3 stations, to the big huge TV with the remote the size of a paperback. Then we added the VCR that we couldn’t operate with its tethered remote, then a managable VCR, DVD player and now I am one of the legions of Tivo devotees. How we watch television still is, and always will be, evolving. With Tivo and DVRs, we decide when to watch our shows. It isn’t necessary to be home by 7 to catch “Must See TV” like it was a decade ago. We just punch a few buttons and go on our way. Maybe we’ll watch Ugly Betty on Sunday afternoon. Of course there are a few exceptions to this for me. I still have appointment viewing, of course, for Grey’s, Gilmore Girls and Lost. But the new trend is for networks to post their shows the day after broadcast on their websites. Now you can use your lunch break to catch up on Susan’s latest misadventure on Wisteria Lane.

So do you enjoy watching television on your PC? I personally don’t. But in a pinch, if I failed to Tivo it or even tape it, I’ll do it.

There are already plenty of web only shows out there and with YouTube growingi by leaps and bounds every day, you can pretty much see whatever you want at anytime. But me? I prefer seeing my Seattle Grace friends in the comfort of my recliner, remote in hand, ready to zip through the commercials.

Everything is broken

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Wow. What an episode! I’m not going to do a full on recap, but I just want to hit the highlights so we can discuss.

1) Christina couldn’t take the pressure of the cover up and confronted Burke about it. He is right – she pushed him into doing it. The Chief is going to retire and wants to recommend Burke for Chief of Surgery. Burke can’t take it in good conscience, but before he tells the Chief, Christina beats him to it. Can they ever save their relationship now? Will Derek get the Chief job instead?

2) Burke blames Derek for his hand tremors after Derek told him he would have helped him had he known. Their tenative and new friendship seems over.

3) George calls in another surgeon for his dad but Izzie, not knowing Burke’s problem, tells his parents Burke is the best. When they reschedule again, George freaks and tells his parents that the last time Izzie had direct patient care, someone died. She was devastated. I know George is concerned about this dad, but wow – what a low blow. When he later tried to apologize, Izzie told him to never speak of Denny to her again. Can they ever repair their relationship?

4) Meredith and Derek felt the fallout of the Burketina cover up. He was upset with Meredith for not saying something during the surgery and she was upset that he expected her to betray her best friend. Sure did work out in the end for those two, though, didn’t it? What about Meredith and Christina, can they get over it?

5) Alex and Addison – told y’all. It is on now – I can’t wait.

6) Again, WHERE IS BAILEY? I need more Bailey. But once again, what little bit she was in the show, she was awesome.

7) Callie about to kick Meredith’s ass had Izzie not intervened? Hilarious! “Use your words Callie, your words!”

Thoughts?

“A hailstorm of self loathing and misery”

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Ok, first of all, are Callie and Addison the new Bailey and Addison? Speaking of Bailey, she has been sorely missed these past few episodes. I know she was around to bark at Christina, but I miss seeing her more. I like that Addison is making friends with the other doctors. Call me crazy, and I know you will, but did anyone else pick up just the smallest girl on girl vibe when Addison asked Callie for a drink? I’m sure that’s just me because rumors have floated around the show since last season that a character is bisexual.

The boys going camping was great! I loved the whole thing. I wonder what’s going to go down between George and Burke now that his father is in the hospital. Will he trust him to operate since he saw the tremor? We saw from the preview that George confronts Christina about it.

And just when I thought Sloan couldn’t possibly get worse he goes after Meredith. Again, what did Addison ever see in this guy? Yuck.

Thoughts??
