Rhimes Speaks Out on Rumors

Monday, February 16th, 2009

The plot continues to thicken at Grey’s Anatomy. At the 40th Annual NAACP Image Awards, Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes spoke out about recent rumors that TR Knight and Katherine Heigl are leaving the show, saying “That was a very interesting rumor, and it’s not true.” Shonda also went on to add that she doesn’t like to talk about what is coming up on the show. And when questioned about James Pickens’ statement last week, she said, ““That was absolutely taken out of context. Things happen, and … I think rumors become fact very easily. And you know I don’t like to tell you what’s going to happen on the show — but that is a rumor.”

Hmm… that last quote has me wondering. I don’t know what to believe any more. It seems to me like Rhimes is trying to cover up for Pickens’ huge misstep to Us Weekly. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out in the coming months. Meanwhile, congratulations to the show for picking up 3 awards and to Chandra Wilson for winning Best Supporting Actress in a Drama.

Let’s talk crossover!

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Ok, there was a lot going on last week and this week on the Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice crossover extravaganza. There’s no way to cover it all, but let’s hit the major points.

First of all – how great is it to have Addison back at Seattle Grace? I SO miss her on this show. I do enjoy Private Practice much more than I did when it first started, but I love Addison interacting with Mark, Derek, Bailey, Callie and Meredith. She just seems to fit better there. Of course Addy was in town with her brother Archer who desperately needed brain surgery. She begged Derick to perform a miracle and he did. Addy also brought along Sam and Naomi from the Oceanside Wellness Group. I like Sam. And I loved his interaction with Bailey. Those two would be fun to watch, but alas, Sam will be going to back to Cali before much longer.

Elsewhere Addison got involved with Derek’s pregnant patient’s case. The two argued over how to save the mother and the baby and it was Addison’s turn to step up and perform a miracle. It looked as though she had succeeded until the end when the patient woke up disoriented. I can’t wait to see next week’s episode – the Derek/Addison confrontation in the OR looks great.

Alex knows something is wrong with Izzie. I wish they would go ahead and let us in on what it is, too. I loved that he asked Addison if she was happy that she ran away, and she answered that she hadn’t ran, but walked away. She never did say if she was happy or not. My guess is on not.

Hunt’s ex-fiancée and her father were at Seattle Grace. She tearfully told him that she didn’t see the real him any more and how could not tell his mother he was home from the war? Cristina was appalled, but Hunt pleaded with her to see the real him, because the man that left for war was not the same one that returned.

Again, George was hardly in the episode. (Can’t blame him for wanting out of this contract since he hardly acts any more). But he did appear long enough to catch on to Sadie’s game. Sadie was way behind the other interns and George forced her to tell the Chief. She left the program. Just as well with me – she’s just an extra person taking up room to me.

Much, much more happened, but I want to know – what did you think?

McSteamy Baby News

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Eric Dane, aka Mark Sloan, aka McSteamy appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today. Ellen asked Eric if he and wife Rebecca Gayheart have any plans to start a family soon. He admitted that they are already working on that.

“It’s funny because you get the doctors involved and they call you and it’s like, In eight days I’ll have to put in some work,” he explained. Then, he said, for four days, “I will be very busy and I probably shouldn’t schedule anything else.”

DeGeneres then suggested that four days of sex sounded like “tough work.”

“Hard work,” he agreed, “great if you can get it though.”

Ellen asked Eric about yesterday’s news that Katherine Heigl and TR Knight are leaving the show. He said, until he hears otherwise from the “big boss” Shonda Rhimes, that nothing is final.

Going to the Chapel?

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

108490_7591In last week’s episode, Derek’s mother gave him her engagement ring along with her blessing for him to propose to Meredith. Now longtime fans of Mer and Der were squealing with this new development. But will they really get engaged, much less get married?

TV Guide’s Matt Mitovich gives us a little bit of information on that topic:

Dude needs to unload it and quick, I’d say! Instead (sigh), he will hold onto it long enough for virtually every Seattle Gracer — Meredith excluded, of course — to learn of the bauble’s being and in turn offer their two cents on when and how he should pop the Q. Will Der stick to his original plan? And if so, does it involve a meticulously crafted arrangement of candles?

No surprise there. It would be too easy if Derek immediately proposed to Meredith. And it wouldn’t be Grey’s Anatomy if everyone else got their noses stuck in this business. I’m a big fan of Meredith and Derek and I’m enjoyed the past few episodes where we’ve seen them disagree on the serial killer. But is Meredith ready to say “I do” and leave behind her (as Derek would say) “frat house”? What do you think? Are they ready yet?

So it isn’t a brain tumor

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy are still abuzz with the Denny/Izzie storyline. It appears that the story is far from done. EW’s Michael Ausiello reported that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is scheduled to be in at least five episodes (and he’s already been in two). From what I can tell, fans are decidedly split on the decision to have Denny appear real to Izzie. Ausiello got this quote from creator Shonda Rhimes on the topic:

“I think the love triangle with Denny, Izzie, and Alex is among the most interesting we’ve ever done. Watching the chemistry between Jeffrey and Katherine again has been really touching. I can’t wait for our viewers to see where we’re taking it. But what it won’t involve is Izzie having a brain tumor.”

Obviously I’m very curious to see where the story is going, but I’m afraid this creative turn may have alienated some fans. We’ll see. No matter what happens, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is always welcome on my screen!

Did Grey’s Jump the Shark?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Ok, deep breath and let’s discuss last week’s episode. But first, let me say, I love Katherine Heigl. I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I loved the Izzie and Denny storyline from a few seasons ago. I love that the show never lets us forget Denny and that it is allowing Izzie to still deal with her grief over him. And they had me going with him appearing to her while she was working on two heart cases. Remember, I raved about the previous episode. But this week? When she touched him? Rut roh. I think they definitely crossed over into crazy land.

Here’s my theory – Izzie has some kind of brain tumor that is causing her to have visions of Denny. It’s obvious that he isn’t real and he hasn’t actually appeared because this isn’t X-Files and because Alex saw her talking to thin air. So, if that is the case, I hope we get to the explanation quickly. Or (pardon the language) maybe she just lost her damn mind. I don’t know, but what I do know is this storyline keeps getting more ridiculous with each episode. Am I wrong? What do you guys think?

Elsewhere, Cristina got the brush off from Meredith as her former BFF showed up. It’s been reported that Melissa George’s character was originally supposed to play foil to the Erica and Callie relationship, but it is rumored that there will be no flirting with Callie now. It is interesting to see Cristina deal with not being the center of Mer’s attention. Looks like Derek isn’t the only one being pushed out of bed now.

And speaking of guest stars, Mary McDonnell was great as heart surgeon Dr. Dixon with Asperger’s Syndrome. It seemed unlikely to me that Bailey couldn’t figure out that she wasn’t just weird, but rather had some social issues caused by a form of autism.

And one last thing – I am beyond irritated that the residents aren’t teaching the interns. No wonder the hospital fell down in the rankings. Also, where was George??? Is he being put on the back burner for any particular reason?

Thoughts?

Cristina gets her groove back

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

I loved the Burke and Cristina relationship. Loved, loved, loved it. It showed Yang’s vulnerable side and Burke’s too. All that mess with Isaiah Washington that resulted in his firing was unfortunate for the story. I wanted these two to work, even though it seemed she wasn’t ready.

So here we are, a full season after the Burke debacle and Cristina has finally met someone. What is his official Mc Name? Anyone know? I’ve seen McHottie, but I’m not sure. Anyway, McHottie is an Army doctor Cristina meets and stitches up. They share a passionate kiss after he pulls an icicle out of her (only on TV, folks) and then he turned back up this past week as the new Trauma doctor at Seattle Grace.

His first move was to have the residents and interns save pigs that he stabbed and after that whole debacle, he ordered Cristina to euthanize them to put them out of their suffering. To top it off, he didn’t even remember her name. He’s an interesting new character to the show and I’m very interested in seeing where their relationship will go. It’s time Cristina got her groove back, don’t you think?

Let’s Talk

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

So, I’ve gotten behind on recapping the episodes for you guys and for that I apologize. It doesn’t even matter what the reasons are at this point, but I’m anxious to start the conversation again with fellow Grey’s lovers and see what you think of this season. For the rest of the week I’ll be featuring character commentaries and then we’ll discuss this week’s new episode. It’s November, which means sweeps month – so it should be exciting!

Let’s start with the core couple of Grey’s Anatomy – Meredith and Derek. Look how far they have come….Meredith asked Derek to move in and he agreed. He’s even willing to compromise and allow Izzie and Alex to temporarily live there, too. While moving his stuff into his new office in the house, he stumbled on Ellis Grey’s old diary. Of course, this put Meredith in a tailspin, but she handled it fairly well. Meanwhile, Derek was featured in a national journal on his medical trail of brain tumor treatments that he developed with Meredith. But she wasn’t mentioned in the article. She was upset and he said he would call the journal and give her credit. Elsewhere, Derek, Izzie and Alex struggled with the roommates/working together issue.

All in all, I think it is great to finally see Meredith and Derek in a pretty happy relationship. For MerDer fans it has been a long time coming. But will we get bored without the back and forth, will they won’t they? Guess we’ll see…

Cruel, cruel summer

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Summer is finally over and that means it is back to business here at Watching Grey’s Anatomy! Our show will debut its season premiere on Thursday, September 25. Who’s excited? It actually doesn’t seem like that long ago that we left Meredith in the field of candles, but that’s probably because it was such an odd season with the writers’ strike and all. I’m stoked to see what happens next to our Seattle Grace gang and will be right here with to discuss it all.

Stay tuned!

TR Knight

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Today is Grey’s Anatomy star TR Knight’s 35th birthday. I’m sure his BFF Katherine Heigl will be hosting a party any minute now. I love those two as besties in real life, but on screen, I’m not a fan of George and Izzie as a couple. I know some of you will staunchly disagree on that point. But it just seemed forced to me.

From what I’ve read about the last batch of episodes we will get to end the season, it seems as though series creator Shonda Rhimes is going to try and wipe the George/Izzie slate clean. TR was quoted in Entertainment Weekly saying his character will spend some time trying to get back to being “the man Bailey named her baby after.? And I’m glad to hear that. I used to love George, but that whole Callie and Izzie mess sort of ruined him for me. Here’s hoping we’ll see the George we used to love back and better than ever!

McHalloween

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Hello Grey’s Anatomy fans! Tomorrow is Halloween and inquiring minds want to know –what are you going as for Halloween? I work in a place where dressing up is encouraged, there’s a huge party and a costume contest complete with skits and face painting. (Trust me, in context it is a very cool thing). So we decided to dress up this year in our department. Most folks up here love Grey’s Anatomy and discuss it ad naseum each week. (Many of them read this very blog, but for some reason don’t comment – talking to you Liesa and Justin). So, we thought it would be fun to go as the cast of Grey’s Anatomy for Halloween! Even though the show had its Halloween episode last week.

Cute, right? But instead of going as George, Derek, Meredith, Cristina, Izzie, Bailey, Mark, Chief, Lexie and Alex, everyone’s going as “Mc? something. I was going to go as McChief Resident and wear an Indian head dress (I’m totally 1/16th Native American) but I decided it might be offensive. It probably wouldn’t, but just in case I won’t do it. So now I’m having trouble coming up with something else. We’re trying to go with personality traits or things that we love and I’m just having a hard time. I might end up as McSmarty Pants and tape Smartees to my scrub pants, or I may end up as McDrama Queen with a tiara and sash. I can’t be anything scandalous or dirty (because of the McJob) but any thoughts from you dear readers? I know you’ve got to have some suggestions. I love music, television and pop culture – any thoughts?

Great Casting News!

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

In case you didn’t know, I wrote the Gilmore Girls blog for 451 Press. Sadly, the show ended its run in May. But good news for Gilmore and Grey’s fans, Edward Hermann will guest star on Grey’s Anatomy for at least three episodes. He’ll play a doctor. Some of you probably know Ed from his voice over work and other roles. He’s a fantastic actor.

Money, Money, Money, Money

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Ellen Pompeo is one of the highest paid television actresses. She earns $200,000 per episode. WOW. I just find this fascinating because I know that more than one of you pretty much hate the Meredith character (or at least cite that she isn’t your favorite). Patrick Dempsey earns $225,000 per episode, which isn’t shocking, but what I did find interesting is that TR Knight makes the Highest Paid list raking in $125,000 per episode. Hmm…. scandal/fallout retribution much? Just curious. And the fabulous Chandra Wilson also makes $125,000 per episode. I don’t know for sure where the others fall into this range, but do know James Pickens makes around $125k and surely Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh falls on the high end, too. Justin Chambers reportedly is around $125k and I have no idea how much Katherine Heigl makes.
