Awards Updates
Well, The Golden Globes were reduced to an hour long newscast last night instead of the normal Hollywood star studded event we’ve come to know and love over the years. The WGA Strike continues to churn on and last week as a result the People’s Choice Awards were also whittled down into a similar news type broadcast.
Katherine Heigl lost the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama to Samantha Morton in Longford. Say what? Has anyone even heard of Longford? It was plainly obvious that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association lauded heaps of praise on cable series and gave the networks the shaft. In fact, Tina Fey was the ONLY network winner. She won Leading Actress in a Comedy for 30 Rock. Shows like Mad Men, Californication, Damages and Longford won big. (By the way, I’m a huge Mad Men fan – any of you watch it?)
Katherine did win the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Female TV Star. And Patrick Dempsey won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Male TV Star. Chandra Wilson took the People’s Choice for Favorite Scene Stealing Star.
Meanwhile, Michael Ausiello has started another of his famous blind items over on TV Guide. He says a female star on a hit television show was probably going to be passed up for a MAJOR award for her star making turn in a recent movie because of remarks she recently made about the movie. I don’t know about you, but it sounds like Katherine Heigl to me. Remember that misunderstanding with Vanity Fair when she said she didn’t care for her character in Knocked Up? Then she later said the magazine had misquoted her? And I wonder if that major award would have been the Oscar. Hmmmm…..
