The Strike Drags On and Spoilers

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Well gang, it looks as though we won’t get to see that second part of “Crash Into Me” until NEXT YEAR. How disappointing. According to TV Guide, episode 11 of Grey’s Anatomy will air in January 2008. I honestly wish they hadn’t even shown the first part, but I guess they figured it was a good enough of a cliffhanger to keep us interested for the next several weeks.

In strike news, there are rumors that the end of strike is near. The two sides have been negotiating since Monday in a top secret location. There’s been a media blackout, so what little information that is out there has been leaked. Some are saying the strike will wrap up by the end of this week, and some are saying by the end of the year. The sooner the better. Maybe there is hope for this TV season yet!

And in Grey’s spoilery news – when the second part of “Crash Into Me” does air in January, Bailey will do the voice over instead of Meredith. Remember me saying I thought something bad was going to happen with Bailey and her family? Looks like that is true, according to Michael Ausiello. He says something bad will happen to her – “Not physically but emotionally.” My guess? Tucker leaves her or something happens to baby Tuck. I like that Bailey is the only one that has seemed to be able to have a personal life separate from her professional one and it will be disappointing if they can’t just work out the issues. I’m sure whatever goes down will give the awesome Chandra Wilson some great stuff to play, but seriously, can’t someone on the show find some balance and have a life?

“Crash Into Me, Part One” Recap

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Sorry for the delay. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I’m puzzled as to why ABC decided to show part one of “Crash Into Me” and then make us wait an extra week for the conclusion. I guess this is all part of the whole strike fallout. They must be trying to stretch the few episodes they have out. But why air it on Thanksgiving? Anyway, let’s discuss.

Bailey’s headed for trouble, y’all. Her husband Tucker is tired of her never being around. It looks as though the Chief was right – making her Chief Resident is hurting her family. And say goodbye to Bailey’s nickname of “Nazi” since she had to operate on a horrible white supremacist. I always thought that was a terrible nickname for her anyway. I think Colonel or something would be more appropriate.

Meanwhile two ambulances crashed into each other and Meredith and the Chief spent the day tending to the two victims. One of which died and the other may not make it, either. I’m pretty sure this caused Meredith to have her moment of clarity about Derek, but I think it’s too late. That ship has sailed and McDreamy is sailing on with his OR nurse.

Ava/Rebecca showed up again. What’s with the random? Either stick around or leave. And poor Lexie – but it’s hard to feel sorry for her when Alex told her straight up he was a dog, but you know, we always think we can change them, don’t we?

And one other thing, I loved that the episode started with Cristina and Meredith dancing. What did I love about it?? That one little moment when Izzie walked by then commented to George that everyone was tired of the Meredith Cristina super secret little friendship club. That cracked me up.

Strike Update

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Happy Thanksgiving! And here’s a nice, juicy piece of information for all television addicts to be thankful for – The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Producers Guild will resume talks on Monday, November 26 with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). This is truly great news for all television fans! Let’s keep our fingers and toes crossed that both parties will be able to reach an agreement to put this whole nasty strike mess behind us. Maybe they can even salvage what is left of this TV season before it is too late.

To recap for those playing at home, the WGA wants a piece of the profits for their work when it appears on the Internet. And who could blame them? If they didn’t write, there wouldn’t be any shows. And the networks are making money off the shows on the Internet, whether it be by placing commercials in episodes like Grey’s Anatomy on abc.com, or whether you buy an episode of a show from iTunes. The writers deserve a piece of that pie.

And the ironic thing is, the Internet is the medium that stands to gain from this whole strike fiasco. Think about it? What are you going to do on Thursdays after the last three Grey’s Anatomy episodes air? Read a book, hang out with family and friends, listen to music, shop, do something productive, etc. Now how many of you will use that time to surf? And maybe, just maybe, watch an episode of TV on your computer? Hmm….So the very thing they are fighting over is about to blow up exponentially. It should get interesting. Let’s hope we have good news to report as of next Monday. I’ll keep you posted.

“Forever Young” Recap

Friday, November 16th, 2007

This was a really good one, wasn’t it? I finally felt like I was watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy for season one or two (or the first half of season three). Let’s get to it.

Bailey! Finally, finally, Bailey was heavily featured in an episode and attention Emmy voters, Chandra Wilson’s Emmy reel will be spectacular this year. And I love that she spent most of the episode with George. Those two are always a great pair. Speaking of which, if you watched Private Practice this week, what about Addison helping a scared, reluctant patient with labor exactly like George helped Bailey through hers? Anyway, Bailey fell all over herself when a former high school classmate showed up in the ER. I loved see another side of Miranda or “Mandy.” The self assured surgeon turned into a love struck teenager and even though she saved the guy’s life he still didn’t see her. George called Bailey out on it, too, but instead of giving the guy a long speech as he suggested poor Derek took the brunt of it in the lobby. What a great scene between those two. Wow.

Speaking of Derek…. Derek’s dating now and Meredith is just letting him do it. Derek went out with Sydney and at the end of the episode she let him down gently by telling him she didn’t think he was quite ready for a real relationship. Loved it. A little bit of Sydney goes a long way, but she provided some much needed comic relief last night. Looks like Derek’s new love interest will be the nurse from the OR just as we suspected. And you know what? Good for him. I’m sorry, but I’ve been a die hard Meredith and Derek fan from day one, but if she’s not willing to try, then it’s time to just let it go.

And I hate to say this, because I think Ellen Pompeo is a great actress (remember the scene with Ellis last year before she died?) but seeing Meredith get knocked off her high horse by Lexie was fantastic. Their dad came in all drunk and charming and telling Meredith that he loved her and that he was sorry. Meredith felt better about him and told Lexie to keep a better eye on him. And Lexie tore into her, reminding Meredith that she isn’t the only one in the world in pain and with Daddy issues. It was about time. Again, get into therapy.

What’s up with Cristina? I know she’s never been into the whole friend thing, except with Meredith, but where’s the loyalty? Just because Callie has moved in with her, does that mean she has completely tossed her friendship with George and Izzie aside? I don’t like that one bit. Some of my favorite moments on the show have been when the five interns (now residents) are together. They created a little pseudo family and to see Cristina side with Callie bothers me. But you can’t blame Callie for being pleased to hear that George and Izzie are having problems. I wish that storyline would move forward one way or the other. I know fans are split on which way this should be, but either way, let’s get it going already, because I miss George and Izzie as BFFs, just like they do.

The whole high school theme last night was perfect. I’ve said on here many, many times that these people behave like they are teenagers and it was nice to have it finally acknowledged on the show. Sometimes Grey’s can knock you over the head with the theme, but I thought it was nicely done.

Oh, and Patrick had on the orange bracelet again, love it!

So, thoughts? Did you love it or was it just me?

Ellen Pompeo Is Married

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Congratulations to Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery! The couple secretly wed in a low key civil ceremony at City Hall in New York City on Friday, November 9. Ellen and Chris then attended a Knicks game and sat courtside next to John Mayer and Minka Kelly. (Anyone here watch Minka’s show, the uber amazing Friday Night Lights???)

This has been the year for the Grey’s Anatomy cast to tie the knot. Kate Walsh married Alex Young, Ellen married Chris and Katherine Heigl is set to marry singer/songwriter Josh Kelley before the end of the year. Congratulations to all the happy couples!

The Writers’ Strike

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Are any of you guys following the Writers Guild of America Strike? I’ve been keeping a pretty close eye on it and it looks as though television as we know it is about to come to a screeching halt. Most scripted television shows will be able to show new episodes until January and then we’ll be inundated with reality television. Yesterday, the cast of Grey’s Anatomy, including Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, James Pickens Jr., Sara Ramirez, Eric Dane, Justin Chambers and TR Knight spent their lunch break on the picket line with the writers.

The cast was finishing up shooting the last scripted episode of Grey’s. According to TR Knight, “We’re supposed to be going until the end of May and right now our last shooting day will be Tuesday or Wednesday. As actors, we’re paid a different way than the writers, but there’s also the crew to keep in mind. They are out of work as of next Wednesday.” Katherine Heigl said, “You’ve got to have a story. You’ve got to have a story in order to perform anything, to have any ideas on where to go and what to do, and where the character, story lines, arcs, everything. They’re everything. We can’t do it without them.”

The strike started on Monday when the Writers Guild of America and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers couldn’t reach an agreement on payment for writers for work sold on the Internet. The strike looks to be a long one as no new negotiations have been scheduled. The last Writer’s Guild strike was in the late eighties and cost the industry half a billion dollars. This strike is expected to last many months and cost the industry close to a billion dollars. Crew members will be out of work without pay. Patrick Dempsey told the media that this fact upsets him “profoundly, but at the same time the writers deserve a better break.” The cast of ER is planning to raise money for their affected crew members to help them pay their mortgages and car payments. This is such a sad situation all around. Hunker down, y’all, television is about to get really depressing.

Kung Fu Fighting Recap

Monday, November 5th, 2007

I had a rough day Thursday and while I got to see Grey’s Anatomy, I honestly can’t recap it in as much depth as I usually do. I was out of town on Friday and haven’t had a chance to post, and I do apologize. I’ll hit a few highlights (of what I remember) and we’ll discuss.

1) Mark and Derek continue to rebuild their friendship. And they spent most of the episode trying to decipher what the Chief meant by “A Gentleman’s Evening.” But Dr. Hahn crashed the party. Looks like she’s going to be a fun addition to the cast.
2) The wedding dress contest was just ridiculous. Here’s a crazy thought? How about cutting the freaking thing in half to separate them. Seriously, ridiculous story line.
3) Mark and Callie are so going to hook up. He tortured George just to make her feel better and they’ve been down that road before, it won’t be long before they revisit that.
4) George and Izzie’s “hot” night didn’t happen. Brace yourselves, Gizzie fans, I just don’t think that’s going to happen.
5) Alex and Lexie, um yeah, we saw that one coming a mile away.
6) Meredith was all up in, on and under my nerves. The parachute guy’s near death experience reminded her of her own near death experience. She spent the whole episode whining about how that feeling that you can do anything was now gone. And yet she still does nothing about it. This girl needs to get in some therapy stat. I just don’t think the MerDer pairing is going to last much longer.

Speaking of which, Patrick Dempsey was quoted on TV Guide’s site saying, “Derek and Meredith’s relationship has gone as far as it can go. I don’t think it’s going to go unless she commits to marrying him or goes into therapy and starts working on herself. We’ll have a cliff-hanger with this last show and there will be a resolve that seems to be permanent.”

I wasn’t feeling this episode very much, but on a bright note, Ugly Betty is still continuing to kick butt. And there’s always the next Grey’s to look forward to!

Thoughts?
