Spoilers and Theories

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I just read some interesting information on tomorrow night’s episode. The title is “Kung Fu Fighting.” Of course November is a sweeps month, which means this month’s episodes of Grey’s Anatomy should raise the bar. Sweeps months are used to help set advertising rates for shows. Remember to set those Tivos and DVRs for seven extra minutes because the show will be longer. So here’s the latest scoop I’ve rounded up across the web for you guys.

Tomorrow night two people will sleep together. These two people have never been “romantically linked before.” Oh and Meredith will catch them in the act.

We know from the preview tagged onto last week’s episode that George and Izzie will be hooking up, but who else could it be? Lexie and Mark? Cristina and Mark? Lexie and Derek? Mark and Dr. Hahn? (By the way, those two becoming an item is also a new rumor). And there is a theory that it might even be Alex and Lexie. Which I completely believed would happen until that scene where Alex told the other interns that George was a “repeater.” She looked disgusted, but hey, if we know anything about Alex, we know he repulses them first and charms them later. What do you think??

We know Joshua Jackson will be joining the show in January starting with Episode 11. Some of you think he’ll be Izzie’s new love interest, but what about Cristina? Or even Lexie? No matter which way it shakes out, I’m looking forward to having him on the show. Even though I didn’t watch Dawson’s Creek. I know, I know, how could I have not watched it? I don’t get it, either. Ha.

McHalloween

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Hello Grey’s Anatomy fans! Tomorrow is Halloween and inquiring minds want to know –what are you going as for Halloween? I work in a place where dressing up is encouraged, there’s a huge party and a costume contest complete with skits and face painting. (Trust me, in context it is a very cool thing). So we decided to dress up this year in our department. Most folks up here love Grey’s Anatomy and discuss it ad naseum each week. (Many of them read this very blog, but for some reason don’t comment – talking to you Liesa and Justin). So, we thought it would be fun to go as the cast of Grey’s Anatomy for Halloween! Even though the show had its Halloween episode last week.

Cute, right? But instead of going as George, Derek, Meredith, Cristina, Izzie, Bailey, Mark, Chief, Lexie and Alex, everyone’s going as “Mc” something. I was going to go as McChief Resident and wear an Indian head dress (I’m totally 1/16th Native American) but I decided it might be offensive. It probably wouldn’t, but just in case I won’t do it. So now I’m having trouble coming up with something else. We’re trying to go with personality traits or things that we love and I’m just having a hard time. I might end up as McSmarty Pants and tape Smartees to my scrub pants, or I may end up as McDrama Queen with a tiara and sash. I can’t be anything scandalous or dirty (because of the McJob) but any thoughts from you dear readers? I know you’ve got to have some suggestions. I love music, television and pop culture – any thoughts?

“Haunt You Everyday” Recap

Friday, October 26th, 2007

“You all are like a bunch of little children running around with scalpels, with your inappropriate talk and inappropriate sex…”

And that, my friends, hit the nail on the head for this show we love and love to analyze. I finally remembered that this show has always been about a group of young interns (now residents) trying to find their way in their careers and personal lives. And they screw up – A LOT. And those screw ups are what drive us crazy and what make us continue to watch. Those very conflicts that make us want to scream at the television are what keep Grey’s Anatomy interesting.

Callie told everyone that Izzie and George slept together. Of course the news didn’t go over well and Cristina didn’t hesitate to show her disgust. But Izzie asked Cristina why she and Meredith are such a closed little circle. A little circle that allows mistakes and screw ups for themselves but not for anyone else. Very good point. I like the BFFness of Meredith and Cristina, but I’m tired of both of them riding on their high horses as if they’ve done nothing wrong. How funny was Meredith’s line, “Ok, so you’re in love? As in sexy love? Not sibling love?” LOVE IT. And again, I hate to say it, but I’m having a hard time believing George and Izzie as a couple.

And speaking of adultery and all its sordidness. Rebecca showed back up and fell immediately into bed with Alex. They never really got around to that whole talking thing and she was gone when he came back. But I have a feeling we won’t be seeing the last of her.

Meredith had (as always) issues of her own to deal with, mainly the fact that she brought her mother’s ashes to work in a plastic bag. Um, yeah, creepy. But she spent her whole day arranging a pro bono surgery to build a young boy some ears. (Which, by the way, how believable is it that she didn’t see any patients nor did she manage her interns while she was off doing that). And it was the boy that finally gave her an idea of where to put her mother’s ashes. Meredith talked a big game about moving on and putting her mother behind her, so let’s see if she can actually do it this time. (Not holding my breath).

Dr. Hahn is joining Settle Grace. She’ll be a perfect foil to Cristina. Those two will have lots of fun scenes. I loved that Dr. Hahn just outright accused Cristina of sleeping her way to the top. It’s been quite a while since someone has challenged Yang and I like that. And why in the world would Callie want to move in with Cristina? Random. I didn’t get that at all, are they going to be roommates or will Cristina end up over at Meredith’s, too?

Bailey was featured a bit more in this episode. She’s still struggling with being the wife and mother she wants to be and being the surgeon she wants to be. I love any scene between her and George. She’s always the voice of reason and always tells him what he needs to hear.

Elsewhere Norman had a stroke and Mark put the word out that Derek was ready to date. That MerDer carousel ride we’ve been on since season one? Yeah, here we go again.

Casting Scoop

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Ready for it? Joshua Jackson known to many as Pacey on Dawson’s Creek will be joining Grey’s Anatomy for “several episodes” beginning with episode 11 this season. Word on the street is he’ll be playing a doctor. Hmm….wonder if the might be a love interest for someone? Perhaps Meredith? Because, meanwhile, much to the chagrin of Meredith and Derek fans, Derek will be getting a new potential love interest. Lauren Stamile of The WB’s Off Centre will have a major recurring role playing opposite Patrick Dempsey. No one knows for sure yet that she will be his love interest, but I’m guessing she will be.

So what do you think of all the guest stars, recurring roles and new characters this season? At first I wasn’t too sold on Edward Herman as Norman. I particularly didn’t like him working with Alex. But after last week’s episode and his fun interaction with Meredith, I hope he sticks around for quite a while. And I like Lexie. I like that Lexie and Derek are becoming friends (even if Meredith doesn’t like it). She’s the anti-Meredith – the bright and shiny Meredith - the Meredith that wasn’t rejected by her father and wasn’t raised by the harsh Ellis Grey. Lexie’s presence provides a good balance for the show. I’m very interested to see those two develop some kind of relationship. And it looks like Lexie and George will be friends. And of course Elizabeth Reaser comes back this week. I think most of us are very excited to see how her story plays out with Alex.

Thoughts?

The Heart of the Matter Recap

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Finally! Yea! I loved this episode of Grey’s Anatomy. It seems like fans have been longing for the good old days of Grey’s when the show made you laugh and cry in one episode. I think Shonda Rhimes and company finally got back on track last night. And I’ve decided is that I’m going to try and just enjoy each episode and not be so critical of it. No television show is perfect every single week and I shouldn’t expect Grey’s to be, either. So I’m going to let the season unfold and just enjoy the ride!

So last night Derek made friends with Lexie. This was completely inevitable and it irked Cristina to no end. She punished Lexie for bonding with Derek but Derek admonished Cristina for being selfish and unprofessional. I get that Cristina in her twisted way was trying to be on Meredith’s side but she went about it all wrong. And good for Lexie for telling Yang to call her by her name instead of calling her “Three.”

Meredith traded Norman for Saturday off so she could go on a trip with Derek. I wasn’t too sure about Norman last week, but this week? I loved him. He’s just trying to fit in, all saying seriously every two minutes and dude, etc. Too cute. And I loved his relationship with Meredith. Finally, we got to see Meredith interact with someone besides Derek and Cristina. And guess what? She seemed to be a lot less whiny, too.

Of course the big news on the MerDer front was, when confronted about his budding friendship with Lexie, Derek told Meredith he liked that he could talk to Lexie about things. Things like wanting to marry Meredith, have children and grow old together. But, he said he knew Meredith wasn’t ready and he would wait, but he wasn’t sure what would happen if he met someone before she was ready. If that isn’t a wake up call to Meredith, then I don’t know what is. Girl has got to get herself together before it is too late.

The Callie/George/Izzie drama came to a head last night. And hello, Sara Ramirez! Girl can act! I’ve admitted numerous times on this blog that I don’t like Callie, but last night? Yeah, I was feeling her pain. She just wanted to talk to Izzie, but when she got to the cafeteria Izzie put up her dukes to battle for George and it finally dawned on Callie that this wasn’t just a one time fling - George and Izzie have feelings for each other. What about Alex’s reaction to Izzie’s admission of sleeping with George? Ouch. But he’s right – he was married and oh yes, Izzie did tell Alex she wasn’t ready to be with anyone after Denny. Maybe that was the writers way of acknowledging the fan outcry about the George/Izzie pairing and the end of the Izzie/Alex pairing. Gotta love Izzie for reminding Alex that he was no saint either. And from the previews next week it looks like Izzie won’t be the only adulterous one on the show for long.

Cover Guys and Gals

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Well, I already told you that Patrick Dempsey was on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly Photo Issue. And low and behold on Justin Chambers and Elizabeth Reaser are on the cover of this week’s TV Guide! October is definitely the month of magazine covers for our friends at Seattle Grace. In the article, Justin and Elizabeth talk about their on screen relationship and (spoiler alert!) it sounds like the two are definitely going to hook up on the Halloween episode. Series creator Shonda Rhimes told TV Guide that Alex will grow up and fight for what he wants this season. Elizabeth Reaser has signed on for an undisclosed number of episodes, so looks like she’ll be sticking around. One question, though, what about her kid? Oh yeah, and her husband? I’ll post the picture as soon as I can find it. It is so new it isn’t even on TV Guide’s site yet!

And Katherine Heigl graces the cover of In Style. Depending on which issue you got, she either appeared as a brunette or the blonde Heigl. In the article she says, “In a town of blondes, going brunette is a little more exotic, but my producers won’t let me do it.”

katherine-heigl-brunette-instyle-21.png

And Kate Walsh is on the cover of the October Marie Claire magazine. She talks about her wedding and how excited she is for her new show Private Practice. All of this publicity can only mean good things, right? I know some of us have been ambivalent about this season so far, but I have a feeling some good stuff is just around the corner. And as long as Patrick Dempsey keeps showing up in my mailbox, Entertainment Weekly can count on a lifetime subscriber!

This just in…

Monday, October 15th, 2007

In case you missed the memo, this just in – Patrick Dempsey, aka Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy is HOT. As in, slap your momma hot. Or dead sexy. Or whatever other term you can come up with for hot. Patrick graces the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly. This week’s issue is the annual Entertainment Weekly Photo issue and my oh my did they pick some good ones of Mr. Dempsey. The photos were shot by James White and were inspired by Steve McQueen.

patrick_ew_cover.jpg

In the interview Patrick talks about his upcoming movies. Up first is the fairy tale Enchanted where he literally plays Prince Charming (a single, divorced father) that falls for a cartoon princess (Amy Adams) who comes to life. The movie will be out in time for Thanksgiving and should boost Patrick’s career even more.

patrick_ew2.jpg

As for Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick says, ”I’d like to see him marry Meredith, all the relationships on the show are deeply flawed, but I think there should be a healthy one to be found somewhere.” He also admits he’s quite amused by the “McDreamy” catch phrase. And he admits that his on screen work on the show is getting a bit repetitive. His next Movie is Made of Honor where he plays his best friend’s male bridesmaid in an attempt to win her love. All of his work is leading to one end; he wants to move back to rural New England and race cars and only act when he wants to act. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen for some time because I sure would miss his pretty, scruffy face, wouldn’t you?

I love how awesome Patrick is, too, you know. I’m just saying, it ain’t all about his looks. ha!

“Let the truth sting” recap

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I liked this episode. I don’t think I even rolled my eyes once and I laughed several times. Charlie, aka “Really Old Man” woke up! I love that they tied up that plot line. How cute was this old man? Seriously. Loved him. He knew all of their secrets and wasn’t afraid to call them out on them. He told Izzie that she was kidding herself to think it would ever work out between her and George. I think this is setting up in the inevitable end of the Gizzie saga. (I could be wrong; I know a lot of you love them together).

Izzie didn’t think that George was ever going to tell Callie and he finally told Izzie to back off. At the end of the episode, Callie asked George to tell her what she already knew and he responded with “I slept with Izzie.” I almost felt sorry for Callie during this episode. I want to like the character and I think I actually might once she’s not with George. And if she’s going to be around Bailey, I’m sure I’ll eventually like her.

Elsewhere Alex was assigned the oldest intern ever. And I have to shout out Edward Hermann of the late great Gilmore Girls. He was fantastic in the role. I wonder how long he’ll be around. Speaking of the interns, are we going to get to know any of them besides Lexie or not? And finally Lexie let her anger out on Meredith and when Meredith whined to Bailey she gave her a reality check. Maybe there is hope for these two yet.

And how happy are we to see Derek in a good mood for a change? Love it. I really loved the scene where he told the Chief and Mark they had no business performing the surgery on that lady’s tongue.

Last thing – Lexie and Alex are so going to hook up. Or at least I thought so until Alex went back to his season one self and told an elevator full that George was repeating his intern year. Ouch.

Patrick and The Orange Bracelet

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Over the summer I wrote about Patrick Dempsey visiting The Children’s Hospital of Alabama. While he was there he visited a patient named Addison Sewell. Addison is battling leukemia. Patrick was in the Birmingham area racing his car over at Barber Motorsports Park and he dropped by to pay her a visit. I know I posted it before, but check out the super cute video.

During his visit Addison gave him an orange bracelet that her friends and family wear to support her. The bracelet has her name embossed and it also says, “Stay Strong.” Patrick promised to wear it during the second episode of season four of Grey’s Anatomy. Guess what folks? He’s a man of his word and he wore it last Thursday night during the “Love/Addiction” episode! You could easily see it during his first scene – where he was talking with the Chief about the surgery board. The Birmingham local ABC Affiliate ABC 33/40 interviewed Addison in a piece that aired after the episode was shown. Once again, I just have to say how much I love Patrick Dempsey. It’s so nice to see stars that are good people that do good things.

I only had one comment on the “Love/Addiction” recap. An informal poll of discussing it with my friends shows that overall the episode was enjoyable. I’m hoping the show has turned a corner and won’t head back down that dark and twisty path that it did the entire second half of last season. I have missed the fun and the FUNNY. I’m hopeful that Shonda Rhimes will keep her promise of trying to balance the drama and the fun this season.

“Love/Addiction”

Friday, October 5th, 2007

First of all I want to say how interesting it is to me that last night’s Ugly Betty’s title was “Family/Affair” and Grey’s title was “Love/Addiction.” Very clever double meaning for both and I like it. Just a little something for you Betty fans since I know a lot of you also love that show. Now, let’s get right to it.

Meredith, Meredith, Meredith. What a mess this girl is. I’m with those of you that are sort of hating her right now. She has the perfect man (her words) and she KNOWS why she treats him the way she does, but she continues to behave that way. And could she be anymore bitchy to her sister Lexie? The poor girl just wants to have a conversation with her half sister. And I know, I know, Meredith is all “dark and twisty” and complex and whatever, but honestly, it is getting a little old. I love, love, love that Mama returned and put her in her place about her behavior at the wedding – nice.

But Mama was really there to see Cristina. What an interesting dynamic that was. I felt like Mama should have been sitting behind a little paper desk marked “Psychiatric Help 5 Cents.” Anyway, she told Cristina she felt sorry for her that she lost the love of her life but more so she felt sorry for her that she lost a great teacher. Mama told Cristina she was a strong woman and that she’d be ok.

Mama also had a chance to talk to “Burke’s guy” George. Did anyone else wonder about that little speech he made to Mama about Burke? About how maybe Burke dodged a bullet and how he didn’t do anything wrong, etc.? The whole time I kept thinking, wow is he talking about Burke or is he talking about Isaiah Washington? Hmmm….. Anyway, he got his 5 cents of clarity from Mama and determined to tell Callie about his affair with Izzie.

And Izzie. The girl is just a walking, talking piece of guilt. She loves George and is ecstatic he loves her. But she can’t deal with him breaking up with Callie. She spends the whole day fumbling around and finally tells Callie she thinks she is doing a great job. And the light finally went off in Callie’s head about the affair. Fireworks should be forthcoming. Does anyone here like Callie? I just don’t care for her at all and I really am not even sure why.

Speaking of those I don’t care for and don’t know why – Mark. He’s still around and I guess he’s going to go back to being Derek’s pal. (I will admit that was very cute last week when he told Derek he came back for him). And he’s trying to help Derek break the Meredith cycle, but Derek isn’t ready to beat that addiction just yet.

Bailey is awesome. She’s still struggling with not being in charge but I love that she still finds ways to work around that. And that scene with Alex? Fantastic. Chandra Wilson is a great actress. I like Alex y’all, but can he just shave? Seriously.

Alex and Ava (Rebecca)

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

We’ve all heard the news that Rebecca (Elizabeth Reaser) is scheduled to come back to Grey’s Anatomy this season for another arc on the show. It seems pretty obvious to me that she’s coming back for Alex. One of the great things about Grey’s Anatomy is they never really close a door (well, unless you’re Denny) and there’s always a chance to see someone again. So how do we feel about her return?

What a long way the character of Alex has come since the show started. When the show first started Alex was a pompous jerk and seemingly would serve as only a one note character – a foil to the other interns. But as time went on, he began to change. I like him now and am happy to say I no longer want to call him “McTool.” I was actually rooting for him and Izzie at the beginning. (Those two are responsible for some of my favorite funny moments – “Literally take off your pants” and the kiss in the bar – “Seriously”) And who knows, that might come back up again. But, I really wanted to see him with Addison. It bothered me to no end that they had to tie up that story very quickly to set up Addison’s move to LA. And yes, they by far had the best couple name – Addisex. One quick call room visit and the big brush off and that was done.

And it is beyond ironic that Alex has fallen for a patient after raking Izzie over the coals for falling for Denny. And yes, I know, Alex didn’t go to extreme measure the way Izzie did. But I am interested in seeing how this whole thing plays out – has Alex grown up? Will Rebecca leave her husband for him? Thoughts?
