Great Casting News!

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

In case you didn’t know, I wrote the Gilmore Girls blog for 451 Press. Sadly, the show ended its run in May. But good news for Gilmore and Grey’s fans, Edward Hermann will guest star on Grey’s Anatomy for at least three episodes. He’ll play a doctor. Some of you probably know Ed from his voice over work and other roles. He’s a fantastic actor.

Money, Money, Money, Money

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Ellen Pompeo is one of the highest paid television actresses. She earns $200,000 per episode. WOW. I just find this fascinating because I know that more than one of you pretty much hate the Meredith character (or at least cite that she isn’t your favorite). Patrick Dempsey earns $225,000 per episode, which isn’t shocking, but what I did find interesting is that TR Knight makes the Highest Paid list raking in $125,000 per episode. Hmm…. scandal/fallout retribution much? Just curious. And the fabulous Chandra Wilson also makes $125,000 per episode. I don’t know for sure where the others fall into this range, but do know James Pickens makes around $125k and surely Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh falls on the high end, too. Justin Chambers reportedly is around $125k and I have no idea how much Katherine Heigl makes.

Kate Walsh Talks About Private Practice

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

US Weekly has a fun little interview with Kate Walsh about her new Grey’s Anatomy spin off, Private Practice.

With a wedding to plan and a new show to launch, Kate Walsh is one busy lady. Usmagazine.com’s Jeffrey Epstein caught up with the fiery redhead on the set of her commercial shoot for the 2008 Cadillac CTS, where she talked about leaving Seattle Grace for her own Private Practice.

Usmagazine.com: Was it difficult to leave Grey’s Anatomy?
Kate Walsh: It was. But at the same time, it’s such an amazing opportunity . I definitely miss my pals, but I see them socially. And I’m so excited that Grey’s got nominated for an Emmy again this year…it’s just amazing. But it felt like a natural time for Addison to move on. What else could she do at Seattle Grace, really?

US: How will Private Practice differ from Grey’s?
KW: There is the same recipe of comedy and drama in the show. But there is definitely more humor, I think. And the thing about Addison’s character is she’s off balance. She’s kind of like a cat without whiskers. And I think there’s innate humor in seeing someone taken out of their environment and dropped in a place even the most proficient professional would freak out a little.

US: Did you take any vacation before you returned to work?
KW: I did. I went all over. I was in Mexico. I was outside of Cancun on the Caribbean side. I went to London and Toronto for press. Napa. Bora Bora.

US: Bora Bora! Did your fiance go with you?
KW: Oh yes, he did! I did once go to a balmy island alone, and it was the biggest mistake ever. It’s like, “What an amazing sunset, huh?” [Turns and realizes there no one next to her.] Don’t go there. If you want to go somewhere alone, go to India and have an epiphany. We had a great time.

US: Are you still in touch with Grey’s cast members?
KW: I just saw them. Sara [Ramirez], TR [Knight], Katie [Heigl] and Justin [Chambers] and I had a nice little drink the other night to celebrate the Emmy nominations. It was great to see them.

US: Any chance we’ll see their characters cross over for a guest spot on Private Practice?
KW: I don’t know. We haven’t had any indication of that. I’m sure they’ll do some kind of crossover at some point and have somebody visit. Right now, it’s so new it’s all about getting the show on the air and established, and getting people invested in these new characters.

Here’s hoping they get the humor right and less of a sleaze factor they had going on in the pilot. I really want to like this one, but I’m not sold yet.

Woo hoo! Cast back in action

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I am so stoked to know that the Grey’s Anatomy cast is back at work. Shonda Rhimes has been quoted as saying that this new season will bring the fun back - I’m certainly hoping so. I can’t wait to see what’s in store. In the meantime, here are a few pics of TR Knight and Katherine Heigl on set.

Emmy Nominations

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Emmy Nominations were announced this morning. Grey’s Anatomy is nominated for Best Drama. The show is up against Boston Legal, Hereos, House and The Sopranos. Ellen Pompeo was shut out of the Lead Actress in a Drama race and none of the Grey’s guys were nominated in the Lead Actor in a Drama category. BUT, big news in the Supporting Actress in a Drama category - Katherine Heigl, Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh were ALL nominated. TR Knight was nominated in the Supporting Actor in a Drama category. In the Guest Actress in a Drama category Kate Burton was nominated (Kate played Meredith’s mother, Ellis Grey) along with Elizabeth Reaser (Ava).

Congratulations to the show and all nominated! I’m glad to see the ON SCREEN drama was actually recognized and didn’t get lost in the off screen drama.

Scoop!

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Mike at TV Guide has some scoop for us about the upcoming season. Look away now if you don’t wan to know!

Question: I am in desperate need of some Grey’s Anatomy scoop: What will happen to George and Callie’s relationship? Please tell me that Gizzie is officially dead.— Kenni
Ausiello: Well, they’re not officially dead, but it’s not looking good for the embattled lovebirds after they got eviscerated in a recent focus group. A source close to ABC tells me that George and Izzie polled 95 percent negative, leading one of the 200 or so participants to conclude that, “Gizzie will be dropped.” (I hereby take back all the bad stuff I’ve ever said about focus groups. I love focus groups. Focus groups are awesome.)
Question: Got any scoop on Grey’s?— Helen
Ausiello: Two new interns will be introduced in the season premiere (three if you include Lexie). And they’ll have their hands full when a three-car accident sends multiple casualties pouring into Seattle Grace.

Private Practice Recast

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Well, well, finally some non-Isaiah news! TV Guide is reporting that Merrin Dungey has been replaced as Addison’s (Kate Walsh) best friend on the upcoming Private Practice. Four time Tony winner Audra McDonald will replace Dungey as Dr. Naomi Bennet this fall.

I like Merrin from her Alias (and ok, I’ll admit it, Summerland) days, but I really have no opinion on how she worked with the pilot for Private Practice. I mainly don’t have an opinion because I thought the whole thing sorta sucked. I’ll be watching in the fall, though. I’ll give it a go.

Thoughts?
