Ok, so it wasn’t what we thought it was

Monday, April 30th, 2007

According to E! and Grey’s sources, we didn’t see the dude’s privates last week after all. When I watched the episode, I rewound it and at first thought the actor leaned over and what we got was a quick shot of that and it turns out that is true. The whole story’s over here.

Private Practice

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Here’s the official scoop on the “special” (read: spinoff pilot) episode of “Private Practice.” This is from ABC:

ADDISON TAKES A LEAVE OF ABSENCE FROM SEATTLE GRACE AND HEADS TO LOS ANGELES TO RECONNECT WITH OLD FRIENDS, ON A SPECIAL TWO-HOUR EPISODE OF ABC’S “GREY’S ANATOMY”

Featuring an All-Star Guest Cast Including Paul Adelstein (”Prison Break”), Amy Brenneman (”Judging Amy”), Tim Daly (”The Fugitive,” “The Nine”), Taye Diggs (”Rent,” “Day Break”), Merrin Dungey (”Alias”) And Chris Lowell (”Veronica Mars”)

The Legendary Diahann Carroll Returns as Preston Burke’s Mother, Jane

Elizabeth Reaser (”Sweet Land”) Returns as Ave/Jane Doe

“The Other Side of This Life” Addison takes temporary leave from Seattle Grace and makes a road trip to Los Angeles in order to visit some old friends from medical school. As Meredith continues to bond with her stepmother, Susan, Cristina reluctantly plans her wedding with the assistance of her mother, Helen, and Burke’s mother, Mama Jane. Meanwhile, Derek must perform emergency surgery on Ava/Jane Doe, as Alex continues his unfailing bedside manner with her, on “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, MAY 3 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

The show has gotten some really good buzz from critics. I’m excited to see it this week!

“Desire” Recap

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Great episode. Seriously great. I laughed, teared up and gasped!

Derek? WTF? He is pushing Meredith away because the chief said he can’t have it all - a relationship and the job. But again, so Burke can have it all? I guess it all boils down to Richard looking out for Meredith. And I’m sure it is true that Derek wants Meredith to “breathe” on her own, but it seems to me that he’s using the drowning drama as a cover up for what’s he’s really mad about - Meredith potentially keeping him from getting the job he wants. And then she just gets up and leaves? Here’s a crazy thought, kids, TALK ABOUT IT.

But I think the whole chief thing is a moot point anyway (or a “moo point, you know, a cow’s opinion” for you Friends fans) because go ahead and grab a Snickers, Richard’s not going anywhere for a while. The chairman of the board lit a fire under him last night, so I think he’s staying.

So Jane Doe bounces on back and lets Alex know that Addison is into him. LOVED the exchange between Addison and Callie - “he’s about 12″ HA! Addison wants the guy that will barbecue and teach the kids baseball, but Callie tells her that guy will be Alex after his twenties. After Jane Doe crashes and they deliver the baby, Addison goes for it. It was about time.

Did anyone feel the slightest bit sorry for McSteamy when he caught them coming out of the call room together? I didn’t. Like he told Addison later, “Once a manwhore, always a manwhore.” Seriously - do something with his character or boot him. He’s taking up space.

And just when we think Alex has changed, damn it, he hasn’t. That was a brutal brush off he gave Addison at the end of the day. She definitely deserves better. And who will blame her for going to LA to get in the middle of a Tim Daly/Taye Diggs manwich?

Goorge and Izzie are back to the dream team/normal pals thing. But Callie knows something is up. She doesn’t know the whole truth yet, but she’s about 2 seconds from figuring it out. And of course Addison gave her a huge hint. Callie finally confronted Izzie and told her to back off because she wanted her husband back. A tearful Izzie consoled herself with cake and she even confessed to Burke what she had done. George decides to transfer to Mercy West to get away from Izzie. But, um, hello? Won’t that be a big huge red flag that something actually is going on to Callie? Or scratch that, it would be a giant, neon flashing BILLBOARD that something actually happened. And no, I don’t think he’ll go.

Will the Burktina wedding really happen? Poor Burke is relying on Christina’s friends to help with the details. Will she really do it or not?

Could we get more Bailey, please. I’m tired of her being a secondary character. She is one of the most complex characters on the show and I hope next year she gets more screen time.

So they set up the spin off very well last night. I’m anxious to see it. Looks like Meredith’s big slap is coming next week, too.

Talk to me, I know you have opinions…

Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Rumors swirled last week that TR Knight and Isaiah Washington were both leaving after this season of Grey’s Anatomy. The TR story started after he commented that he was very ready for the show to wrap because he was anxious for a vacation. When asked about his relationship with Washington, TR replied, I show up and do my work everyday, that’s enough for me. TR’s reps assured Kristin at E! that he wouldn’t be leaving the show, while Isaiah’s rep said they do their business in private, not public. Hmmm…. I’m wondering about Washington now…

Spoilers, people

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Denise in Covington, Virginia: This Gizzie thing is really pissing me off. Tell me George will come clean with Callie this week.
Sorry, but their secret will stay hidden from Callie for at least a few more weeks, though she knows something’s not right.

Elliot in Sacramento: Have you heard anything good about the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff?
And how. Studio insiders tells me the first hour of Private Practice’s pilot (which airs as a Grey’s episode in May) is close to completion and is so “fearlessly good” it’s the most likely of all ABC pilots to receive a pickup. Also, how’s this for a juicy little casting tidbit: According to sources, Taye Diggs was originally supposed to play a recurring role on Ugly Betty, but then got offered a series-regular role on Private Practice and jumped ship. A few weeks on Betty…or the chance to become the new McHot Guy? I think he made the right choice, don’t you?

Glenn in Eugene, Oregon: Is Grey’s going to suffer now that the spinoff is on the way? Will the writers be pulling double duty?
Grey’s writer Mark Wilding tells me the spinoff would probably be staffing “new writers,” rather than cannibalizing the Grey’s staff. And great news for Buffy fans, it looks like former BTVS boss Marti Noxon has been tapped to run the spinoff

And a GREAT spoiler picture!

You’ve been warned!!

I just hate that they are going to do that then she’ll leave! I’d love to see those two try to have a relationship.

Sara Ramirez Lands Record Deal

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Callie O’Malley just landed a record deal. Sara Ramirez was a Broadway star before joining Grey’s Anatomy. She won a Tony for her role in Spamalot. Sara plans to spend her summer in the studio recording a record penned by the writers of Spamalot. TV Guide has the story:

We’ve already seen her rock out in her underwear on Grey’s Anatomy. Now Tony-winning actress Sara Ramirez, who plays George’s (T.R. Knight) feisty wife, Callie, has signed a deal to record her own album. “All I can say is that Eric Idle and John Du Prez, who were the writers of Spamalot, are writing the album,” Ramirez told TV Guide at the Step Up Inspiration Awards where she was honored for mentoring young girls.

Although her lips are sealed about the disc’s sound, Ramirez — who has already inked a contract with Universal Music Group — did reveal that she’d spend her summer break from Grey’s in the studio recording the album.

But the Mexico native did let a few details slip about the love triangle brewing between George, Callie and Izzie. “Callie is just showing up doing her job, oblivious to everything,” says Ramirez. So will she call it quits after discovering George slept with ex-model Izzie? “I think she knows her relationship with George is in sort of a delicate place,” she hints. “But she’s a strong lady. She knows what she wants so I’m sure she’ll go to any lengths to get it!”

Hopefully, this means we’ll see more of Callie next season — but Ramirez isn’t talking just yet. “Am I back next season?” she asks with a laugh. “Maybe. This character’s just been so much fun to play. Acting with this group of people has been a master class in episodic television. For now, I’m just enjoying the ride.” —Reporting by Dana Meltzer Zepeda

Recap

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Finally a new episode! And I was not disappointed. Here are the highlights, so let’s discuss…

Izzie went to confession. George continued to avoid Izzie but got all up in Bailey’s face when he found out something was going on with her. I loved that little exchange of him saying, “I demand to know where she is!” and Bailey saying, “I know you didn’t just say you DEMAND to me.” I love Bailey. Plan and simple. I love the Bailey and Izzie relationship.

Izzie chose to donate bone marrow to her daughter, even though Hannah didn’t want to meet her. When George finally figured out where she was, he raced up to her. Whether or not these two are meant to be together, there’s no denying the strength of their friendship. Of course by being with Izzie, George stood Callie up once again. How much more is that girl going to take before she realizes that marriage is over?

Derek was fired up about getting the job as Chief. He told Richard he was promised the job and he expected his support. Richard told him he didn’t want a job that would consume him. And he told Derek he promised Ellis he would look after Meredith. So now his chances of getting the job aren’t looking so good. Meanwhile, did they forget that Richard promised the job to Burke, too? And why should Derek’s relationship be a stumbling block to the job for him, while no one seems to care about Burke and Christina? This is going to be a bad turn of events for Meredith and Derek. First he had to choose between Addison and Meredith and now he’s going to have to choose between his career and Meredith? How much more can he take? I love that he asked Bailey for advice. I have always liked their relationship, too. Remember in season 1 when she stopped the elevator so he could cry?

By the way, I was glad Meredith was barely in the episode. But when she was in there she got all up on my nerves. We know you still have daddy issues, but there’s no need to be so ugly to your stepmother when she is trying to help you. I was glad the stepmom (what’s her name?) showed back up and gave Meredith a piece of her mind. It looked like they came to a little understanding, too, so hopefully we can move on from that.

Goodbye Marlowe! I pretty much hated his storyline. It seemed like merely a contrived plot device to get Christina to realize she needs Burke.

Jane Doe’s parents came to claim her, but she ended up not being their daughter. Sad.

Addison at the bar dancing with the Chief? Loved it. See, this is why I’m going to miss her with these characters.

Katherine Heigl turned in a brilliant performance. So did Elizabeth Reaser.

New episode tonight!

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

FINALLY - it seems like it has been FOREVER, doesn’t it? Anyway, in other news, TV Guide is reporting that Isaiah Washington has decided not to submit his work for Emmy consideration this year. Everyone else in the cast has, though. I’d hate to have to decide between some of the fantastic performances all of them have turned in this year, wouldn’t you?

Washington nabs film role

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Isaiah Washington is set to play a priest returning to the Catholic high school where he was once sexually abused in the indie drama The Least of These, his first film role since his gay slur directed at Grey’s Anatomy cast mate T.R. Knight landed him in the headlines. The film’s writer-director, Nathan Scoggins, tells the Hollywood Reporter he approached Washington after reading about how he was being professionally snubbed in the wake of the brouhaha, and sees this opporunity as “part of [Isaiah] moving forward and making restitution” for his actions.

Worst. Bangs. Ever.

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Now, of course, we’ve ALL rocked some bad bangs in our times - especially if we were alive in the 80s, but good grief - these bangs take the cake. Kate Walsh, you know we heart you, but what the freak were you thinking?

The Clip Show

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

So I didn’t ask you guys last week - what did you think of the clip show? My favorite part, of course, was the “Seriously” montage. I thought it was a well done show and it reminded me of so many funny and memorable things that I had forgotten. Favorite one of those being Bailey - “I may be 47 months pregnant but that doesn’t mean I don’t see everything, hear everything and know everything.” LOVE IT. Didn’t love the new video and song by Brandi Carlile, though. Thoughts?

Scoop

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Ok, kids, here it is - the latest batch of intel. Read at your own risk:

Question: Will Alex and Addison “happen” before she leaves?— Marcia
Ausiello: (Major spoiler alert) Remember how I told you that Grey’s decided to put the brakes on Addisex due to Kate Walsh’s impending spin-off-fueled exit from the show? Well, it appears either Shonda Rhimes had a change of heart or I was given some lousy intel, because the two of them are definitely doing the horizontal tango before she leaves for Los Angeles. In fact, I hear it’s their little affair that ultimately leads her to flee Seattle. Also not helping matters: McSteamy’s “failure” to stick to his 60-day vow of chastity. Why’d I put failure in quotes, you ask? ‘Cause there’s a twist (and a surprising one at that)!
Question: Just saw your latest vodcast. Please tell me it is not Derek who slaps Meredith in the face.— Monica
Ausiello: And ruin all the suspense?! Pshaw. I can tell you that Derek and Meredith aren’t exactly on solid footing by the end of the May 3 episode.
Question: I just had two wisdom teeth pulled, so please pity me and give me some Grey’s Anatomy scoop!— Pammy
Ausiello: Addison won’t be the only Seattle Grace doc who is considering a change of scenery in the coming weeks. My Grey’s mole reports that all the drama surrounding Gizzie-gate will prompt George to consider transferring to another hospital.

So what do we think of all of this? Derek slapping Meredith? Ick - wrong, horribly wrong. George leaving? Addisex just for the heck of it even though it won’t last?
