By now I’m sure you’ve heard that the “working title” for the Grey’s Anatomy spin off is “Private Practice.” Sigh. What a crappy title. Sorry to fuss, but seriously? That’s the best they can do? How about something like Addison’s Hollywood Hotness or Addison’s Men or Hot Guys and a Redhead? What do you guys think? Give me your best name ideas. Serious ones or not, let’s discuss!
A little spoilerish, but not very much at all.
Grey’s Anatomy is keeping Jeffrey Dean Morgan almost as busy in death as it did in life. The actor — who braved shark-infested waters in February when he gave Meredith a purgatorial pep talk — is returning on April 12 to headline the show’s latest recap special. During a telephone chat last week, Morgan explained how this won’t be your standard clip show, disagreed that Grey’s jumped the shark when Meredith went to heaven, set the record straight about the status of his rumored-to-be-dead war-correspondents drama with Shonda Rhimes, and offered a few choice words about his big Supernatural comeback (the operative word being “few”).
Ausiello: How will this clip show be different?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: They’re going to use me as an on-camera host. They’ve never done anything like that before. Usually it’s all voice-over. That’ll be interesting. I haven’t seen a script yet, so I’m kind of on pins and needles myself.Ausiello: Rumor has it the Grey’s spin-off killed your war-correspondents drama. True?
JDM: I got a phone call from Shonda the day before the Grey’s spin-off was announced telling me that it does not affect my show whatsoever. As far as I know, we’re going into production this summer for a mid-season replacement next year. The idea would be to do six or 13 episodes. I know everybody’s saying it’s on the back burner or dying a slow, painful death, but I don’t think that’s the case. Until I hear differently, we’re moving forward with it. I haven’t heard differently, and believe me, I’ve checked. I make sure that no one’s forgetting about me over here.Ausiello: Looking back, how do you think Denny’s February-sweeps return turned out?
JDM: Shonda called me and said, “Would you be willing to come back?” And I, of course, said, “Yeah,” hung up the phone and “How?” became an immediate question. And I don’t think even she knew exactly how that was going to play itself out. I got the script about a week before I went out there to shoot it, and even then I was like, “Is this going to work?” It’s kind of a big jump from what they normally do, but I thought it was pulled off beautifully. I was really excited to do Denny again. I thought we put him to bed last year, so any chance I get to play him I’m a happy guy.Ausiello: What do you say to fans who think the show jumped the shark?
JDM: I don’t know if the show’s jumpin’ the shark if 30 million people are still tuning in to watch it. You’re going to always have your detractors, but the point is, it’s the No. 1 show on TV. I laugh off those comments. It’s a good show, the writing is spectacular, and it’s so well acted. I don’t think it’s jumping the shark. Fonzie is not putting on the shorts and waterskiing at this point. [Laughs]Ausiello: I loved the final scene with Denny and Izzie brushing past each other. What was it like shooting it?
JDM: It was very bittersweet. When I originally was told I was coming back, I assumed I’d be with Katherine. I didn’t see the Meredith thing coming at all. So when I finally saw Katie that day and we did that scene, it was very bittersweet, because we spent so much time together. It was sad. That scene was such a cool scene to do, and the way [the director] shot it, it turned out beautifully. It was great. I wished Denny and Izzie could have reconnected more than that, but I thought that was so powerful and such a good way to end that story line. It was well worth it.Ausiello: So the story is over?
JDM: I can only assume. I can’t see Denny coming back again. He walked into the white light, for god’s sake. I hope he’s not in purgatory in that hospital forever. I can’t imagine. But you never know. Sweeps week, something could change. [Laughs]Ausiello: A lot has transpired behind the scenes since the last time you were on the set. Was the mood more tense?
JDM: The week I was there, we had a great time. It was a lot of fun seeing everybody again. There was a lot of excitement happening at that time. Patrick was just about to have his kids; the show just won the SAG award and the Golden Globe. It was pretty upbeat when I was around. I didn’t see any goofiness happening.Ausiello: What can you tell me about your return to Supernatural?
JDM: I can’t confirm nor deny.Ausiello: C’mon, we know you’re coming back.
JDM: I’ve been instructed to dummy up on Supernatural. I can’t say anything about that. Warner Bros. gave me specific directions: “Don’t say squat!” They know you, I guess, Mike.Ausiello: Curses, foiled again!

You know the drill, read on or look away…
Question: Please, please, please tell me that Izzie is on the pill.— Katherine
Ausiello: Do I look like her personal pharmacist to you? Do I?! But while we’re on the subject of contraceptives, before the season is over, one character will discover that she has no need for ‘em — and hasn’t for some time. (Any self-respecting member of AA should know exactly who I’m referring to.)Question: As one of the few supporters of Team Gizzie on Grey’s Anatomy, is there any hope? I’m sick of Callie!— Rachel
Ausiello: Yes, it appears there’s a glimmer of hope. Sigh….Question: I know you hate the Izzie-George hookup, but you have to admit, that scene between them in the closet was perfection.— Valerie Armstrong
Ausiello: Yeah, that much I’ll give ya.
Ok, I am drawing a complete blank on the first item. I keep thinking Christina because of that miscarriage and the damage it caused. Is that what he means?

Patrick Dempsey, Katherine Heigl and Justin Chambers all made TV Guide’s list of 40 Sexiest TV Stars. Patrick graces the cover and Ellen talks about him in the magazine. She says that Patrick is much more laid back and funny in real life than Derek Shepard is and that he realizes Hollywood is a means to an end for him.
Justin talks about Katherine and says she is every bit the lady but can “belch like a truck driver.” And he says it is true, she’s as nice in person as everyone thinks.
Kate Walsh talks about Justin and says he is sexy because he loves his family. She also says that he is known for growling or barking before each take. Kate loves it because she is known for meowing or barking before each take to vocally warm up.
Wouldn’t it be fun to hang out on set one day?

Wow. Wow, wow, wow.
So Izzie thinks it is the start of something good and George of course, being married and all, wants to forget it ever happened. Wow.
I felt for Izzie in this episode. She was the one that remembered and she was the one that thought it was more than a stupid mistake. Could this girl get her heart broken any more? And what about Callie? She’s going to have a broken heart, too, when she finds out George cheated on her. And you know she will find out.
The thing I love about this show is that even in dire situations, there is always a bit of fun to be had. I loved when Izzie just blurted it out to Addison and Addison says, “What am I? the go to person for adultery?” Too funny. Again, I have to point out that I’ll miss her on this show.
And Derek? Derek is messed up with worry, y’all. He can’t get over that Meredith let herself almost drown. When the series first started he was sharp and focused on becoming the next Chief and now he says, “A 10 year plan? I don’t know about 10 years from now.” Ouch. What’s going on there? Is he getting soft or just realizing that his future life doesn’t include being Chief?
And meanwhile Meredith won’t deal with any of it. She’s saying she is fine and she’s going about her business. In the process Mark is using her to make himself look good. Although Mark did have a point, if she proved herself in surgery, Richard might stop looking at her like she’s a wounded puppy.
The attendings all lined up to interview for the Chief job. I have a sneaky feeling Richard won’t be giving that spot up so soon, though. I hope not, at least. I like him.
And Callie’s dad showed. Yawn. I do like Hector Elizando, though.
And Burke and Christina seem to have gotten on the same page again. But did I miss the part when she told him she changed her mind and wouldn’t be marrying him solely to please him? Because to me, that’s how she still feels, right? Did she say otherwise?
Now what did you guys think?
Ok, I have to totally admit that I didn’t get to see last night’s episode! I know, can you believe I would actually miss one??? But I had a good reason, I went to see the Bangles last night. Freaking awesome! Anyway, I’m sorry I don’t have a recap, but when I see it, I’ll recap. In the meantime, you guys feel free to comment amongst yourselves about the episode!
So I’m hearing rumors that
SPOILER AHEAD
George and Izzie fall in love and will be in full on relationship mode.
I can hear some of you screaming and some of you cheering. I’ve read a bunch of stuff online about this particular pairing and I find it interesting that it seems to be divided between those that loathe the two of them together and those that love them together. Those that hate it say, ew, they are best friends. And those that love it say, yea! best friends in love, what could be better.
I don’t hate the idea. I’m curious to see how it plays out. I did hate, hate, HATE the awkwardness that was the Meredith and George hook up. But the Izzie thing? Doesn’t bother me - not yet anyway. And I did really love Izzie and Alex together, so I hate to see that door shut (even if it is temporary), but they never had a relationship, did they? They just had sex, right? We haven’t gotten to see Izzie in a relationship with a man that wasn’t in a hospital bed, so I’m curious to see that.
I trust the writers. Check out last week’s writer’s blog. She talks about the George and Izzie thing and how they thought it might work. Since George and Izzie’s best relationship is with each other, why wouldn’t they at least consider it?
So, why was it ok for Chandler and Monica to fall in love on Friends, but it isn’t ok for George and Izzie? I never saw the brother sister vibe between them, so it doesn’t seem all that icky to me. (And yes, I feel for Callie, but he was never as invested in the relationship as she was. She will be a good match for McSteamy when Addy is gone).
I know you guys all have strong opinions, so let me hear them!

Yea! Instead of airing a rerun this Thursday, we’ll get a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy. TV Guide reports that ABC was encouraged by October Road’s ratings and wants to sustain momentum for that show’s second episode. Speaking of - did any of you watch it? I personally LOVE Brian Greenberg, but found the show to be hard to watch. The dialogue was rough and the whole show was a bit pretentious for my tastes. I’m hoping they’ll get it together soon.
Sandra Oh is on the April cover of Marie Claire. She looks fabulous in the pictures and the article is very good. I have to say, she’s won me over as a Christina fan, too.

Ok, I’ll admit, I was totally skeptical about this whole Addison’s Anatomy business at first. But now? Hmm… I’m starting to get psyched to see it. I am worried that the whole dynamic of the show will change without Addy, but I have faith in Shonda Rhimes and company. The cast of the spin off just keeps getting better. So far we have Taye Diggs, Paul Adelstein, Chris Lowell, Tim Daly, Amy Brenneman and Merrin Dungey. Any Alias fans out there? No? Well, how about Summerland fans? (oh come on, you know you loved it). Anyway, Merrin is fantastic and was on Alias as Francie, later on, dubbed as Evil Francie. I’m getting stoked about this show, y’all. Maybe it will fill the hole in my heart that Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars will leave. We’ll see.

Initial thoughts? I really liked this episode. It was such a nice change of pace from the Meredith drowning drama. Big stuff happened, too. Let’s discuss.
1) Alex moved in to take George’s place. When Izzie protested, Meredith said, “He’s one of our people.” Cute, so cute. I’m glad to see him involved with the other interns more.
2) A new candidate for Chief showed up and guess what? He happened to be Christina’s former professor and “lovah” (loved Izzie begging for details). Burke was none too pleased. Especially when Marlow told Burke he repeatedly asked Christina to marry him and she refused, saying marraige was idiotic. Ouch. Burke confronted Christina and she didn’t deny saying that, but said she’d do anything to make him happy. That doesn’t seem to be enough for Burke. Did anyone else wonder if this is the set up for him to leave?
3) Callie is an heiress. A ha! Thank goodness she ain’t preggers (not yet anyway). I don’t like her, y’all. I’m sorry. I’ve tried and tried, but I just don’t. Maybe if she weren’t with George, I’d like her. They just don’t seem to be a good match to me. Callie told George that Izzie wants him and he just laughed it off, but what do you know, after a bottle of tequila, it looks like she was right. I’m just glad we were spared another awkward George in bed scene. Remember how horrible that was with Meredith? I’m glad we didn’t have to see it with Izzie. So what do we think about this, people? Was it just a stupid, drunken mistake, or are the best friends going to start a relationship? (After the tiny business of a divorce). Or, will Izzie get up and pretend it didn’t happen (like my pal Liesa said this morning)?
4) And Alex again. Ok, let me set the record straight - I think Elizabeth Reaser is doing a fantastic job and I really like Alex. But please, for the love of Denny, don’t hook those two up. Another intern falling for another patient? Been there, done that. Let’s move on, shall we? Oh and Alex is over Izzie? Yeah right.
5) McDreamy had a really good episode. It was nice to see them all back in surgery, saving lives. Guest star Shohreh Aghdashloo was fantastic. All of the docs trying to impress Marlowe was funny. I loved the Addison and Mark fight. By the way, is Mark on there for anything other than screaming and bitching? Just curious.
6) Meredith is trying to work it out with her dad. Good for her. Maybe she can one day be half dark and twisty and half bright and shiny.
Ok, I know I said a lot you guys may disagree with, so tell me what you think.
Does anyone else feel like it has been about 9 months since Meredith came back from the dead? I’m stoked for tonight’s new episode.
Big thanks to Allison for filling in for me while I was out - I really appreciate it.
Got some scoop for you - look away spoiler phobes!
From Michael Ausiello at TV Guide:
Question: I was hoping that Izzie and George hooking up would be one of the false plot twists in your Grey’s Anatomy tease last month (Ask Ausiello 2/21). But I just saw the preview for tomorrow’s episode and I’m freaking out. Please tell me it’s some kind of mistake.— Casey
Ausiello: Let me just say this: After tomorrow’s Grey’s airs, you’ll know which one of the six plot twists is real. Here they are again in case you’re too lazy to click on the link above.• After breaking things off with Cristina, Burke will transfer to another hospital.
• Callie will reveal she’s pregnant.
• Izzie and George will hook up.
• Izzie will be reunited with her daughter, and it’s someone we’ve already seen on the show.
• Addison will be diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
• Derek and Meredith’s relationship will hit a roadblock when one of her exes shows up on her doorstep with one thing on his mind.Question: So why did Grey’s Anatomy put the kibosh on the Addison and Alex romance?— Carmen
Ausiello: I hear the brakes were put on Addisex the moment it was decided that Justin Chambers wouldn’t be following Kate Walsh over to Grey’s 2.0. The thinking being: no sense in getting viewers even more invested in Addisex if only one of ‘em is returning to Seattle Grace next season.
Ok, here’s a thought - people, what if Callie was pregnant when she married George? So what is Sloane is the BabyDaddy??? Or maybe we’re all right and George and Izzie will hook up. Can’t wait to see. And I’m really bummed that we won’t get to see Addison and Alex together - boo hiss! They had great chemistry.
From Kristin at E!:
Julie in New York City: Any Grey’s scoop? Please! Are Cristina and Burke actually gonna do it?
Ummm…yes, I’m pretty sure they have already played dirty doctor and naughty nurse, if you catch my drift. But if you’re talking about taking the plunge and becoming man and wife, well, it doesn’t look likely! Sources tell me that Cristina will soon realize that the only reason she said yes was for him. And by the time the intern-on-intern action goes down, I’m told the Cristina and Burke may be on the outs.Steph in Ithaca, New York: I saw your latest Vine show, and I’m aghast. Gizzie? It is happening?
Did my facial expression not give it away? Don’t make me spell it out for you. Don’t make Shonda Rhimes come and kick my ass.
Guess we’ll find out soon enough!
