See, this is what I was afraid of

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

We haven’t discussed the fact that the entire cast of Grey’s Anatomy is in the middle of contract negotiations with ABC. This kind of thing happens all the time and usually we don’t hear a peep about it. The bottom line is, everyone wants more money just like you and I want more money when we have our reviews each year. It doesn’t make us greedy, it’s just a fact of life. This cast isn’t tight like the cast of Friends and they are all negotiating separately. Now TV Guide is reporting that Katherine Heigl has left the talks because she is upset about the money she is being offered. This is what I was talking about the other day when I said the show was so huge right now that everyone is looking with a critical eye at every single bit of news that breaks about the show or its stars. I don’t think badly of Katie and I don’t blame her for wanting to be treated equally. I’d say the same thing if it was any of the other cast members, too. (Well, except maybe Isaiah Washington, as much as I enjoy Preston Burke, I’m still shocked they didn’t fire him). Anyway, here’s what TV Guide has to say:

Katherine Heigl has dropped out of contract talks with Grey’s Anatomy, due to matters of dollars and cents, People is reporting. “Katie is disappointed and hurt that Touchstone doesn’t value her as much as her other costars, especially Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington,” says a source who apparently didn’t get the memo that Touchstone changed its name to ABC Television Studio about two weeks ago.

Heigl, if you think way, way back to the pre-Anna Nicole/Bald Britney era, was perhaps the most vocal of T.R. Knight’s cast mates in publicly expressing disapproval with Washington’s gay slur.

I’m sure this will all work out just fine. It typically does. My guess is Katie is still pissed about the whole Isaiah thing and how it was handled since she and TR Knight are very close off the set. Hopefully we’ll hear this has been resolved soon.

Is everyone happy now?

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Billy Bush interviewed Patrick Dempsey last week to get an update on Isaiahgate. Here are the highlights:

“Has he changed?? Billy asked Patrick about Isaiah.

“It’s hard,? Dempsey sighed. “I haven’t spent enough time around to honestly know what’s going on with him.?

“I haven’t spoken to him about it. You do have a feeling when you look at him that something is different and that he is working on things,? Patrick explained. “You can’t get away from the fact he’s doing a great job on the show. He does beautiful work.?

Here’s hoping this whole ugly mess is behind the show and we can get back to enjoying the onscreen antics instead of dealing with the off screen ones.

Did Grey’s jump the shark last night?

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Well, I’ve talked to some diehard fans this morning and the consensus seems to be that we were disappointed with last night’s episode. It was just too much. I will admit, the show did manage to pull at my heart strings a bit with the Christina thing, but otherwise, come on. A whole episode with Meredith between life and death? The girl bleeding out? Izzie continuing to be a bitch to George? How could Meredith not be brain dead? And as soon as they revived her, they raised the bed up and ALL walked out except for Christina? COME ON. I’ll still love the show and watch the show, but this wasn’t a good turn of events for me.

I think all great shows go through a period when they are so hugely popular that no matter what they do, there is backlash. Think back to Friends and the post Super Bowl episodes - those 6 were on all the magazine covers, Entertainment Tonight, Leno, Letterman, had huge ratings and then the backlash came. It sort of became uncool to be a huge fan of the show for a while. Fans couldn’t be satisified with storylines - we wanted Ross and Rachel together and when they broke up, we were pissed. Same with ER, same with The OC. And even such an awesome show as Lost is currently facing the same thing - fan backlash for the ridiculously long hiatus, etc.

And now Grey’s. Spinning off the show is just too much. It’s going to hurt the show. Last night probably hurt the show with some viewers. What do you think - did they jump the shark? If so, do you really care? Like I said, I’ll still love the show and watch every week, but I do think this was the wrong direction to go in - the whole Meredith drowning bit was a bad idea.

“I’m coping, ok?”

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Wow. Good episode. It went down pretty much like we all thought. Meredith pulled through and her mother passed away. Even though I knew (or figured) both would happen, I still was surprised by some of the episode. It was very well done. I love that we got a little background on Christina losing her father at a young age. I loved every scene she was in. I liked that Izzie finally realized what an ass she was being. But is it too late? And what about Callie? Ouch - those were some rough comments. The one thing that did bother me a bit was we didn’t get to see the other interns really react to Meredith’s situation. George was in LOVE with her and we barely got a few reaction shots from him. Anyway, I know it was impossible to get everything in.

Addison — yep, there’s the set up for her pilot. Mark will screw up (read, screw someone else, maybe Izzie?) during the 60 days he agreed to go without sex to prove he’s serious about Addison. And when he does, she’ll go back to New York for her new show, costarring Taye Diggs (yeah, forgot to tell you guys that). The main disappointment about her leaving is thinking we won’t get to see her interact with Derek and the gang anymore. And goodbye Addisex, we hardly knew ye.

But back to tonight. What did you guys think?

Comment Away!

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Hey everyone. I’m posting so if you’re so inclined you can comment during the show tonight. Of course be advised, stay away until you’ve seen the show. I’ll try to recap right after or at the very least, give you some initial thoughts on the big episode. In the meantime, comment away!

What’s up next?

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Mike at TV Guide never fails to give us some scoop, even though we all know Shonda Rhimes has been known to put out false information. Here’s the latest according to Ausiello:

Question: Is Ellen Pompeo leaving Grey’s Anatomy?— Stacia
Ausiello: Yes. And Hugh Laurie is leaving House. And Jason Lee is leaving My Name Is Earl. And America Ferrera is leaving Ugly Betty. And Michael C. Hall is leaving Dexter. And… see where I’m going with this?
Question: Tell me you can give me something on Grey’s Anatomy to hold me over until tomorrow. Please be my fresh air; don’t you see I am drowning?— Christine
Ausiello: At least one of these things will happen before the end of the season:
• After breaking things off with Cristina, Burke will transfer to another hospital.
• Callie will reveal she’s pregnant.
• Izzie and George will hook up.
• Izzie will be reunited with her daughter, and it’s someone we’ve already seen on the show.
• Addison will be diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
• Derek and Meredith’s relationship will hit a roadblock when one of her exes shows up on her doorstep with one thing on his mind.

I”m pretty sure Callie will find out she’s pregnant, but the rest of those? Who knows.

Update

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Well, I’ve been looking around and it seems that the news of the Kate Walsh spin off is true. I’ve seen conflicting sources saying ABC did admit to it, but most news outlets say ABC isn’t commenting yet. We’ll have to wait and see, but one source says the show is already in PRODUCTION and will absolutely debut in May. Rumor is Shonda has shelved her Jeffrey Dean Morgan show about journalists to focus on Addy’s Anatomy. No title yet.

No freaking way

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

The Wall Street Journal (of all places) is reporting that Kate Walsh will star in a spin off of Grey’s Anatomy. This rumor was also reported by TV Guide:

Though unconfirmed by ABC, the Wall Street Journal — in its “Ask Greenspan” TV scoops column? — is reporting that ABC is pursuing a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy, with a two-hour pilot to likely air in May. This additional dose of the popular drama would star every guy Mer has slept wi-…. Nah, that cast is too big. Actually, says the WSJ, it will be fronted by Kate Walsh’s Addison. Meaning your choice of titles is:

A) “Montgomery’s Ward”
B) “Addison By Subtraction”
or
C) “Ad’ About You”

OMG - what a HORRIBLE idea. Seriously. I love Addison and don’t want her to leave the show. While I’d love to see another hour of Grey’s each week, this would be overkill. I’m afraid this is what happens when the cast grows to too big. What do you think???

I do my little turn on the catwalk

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Add runway model to Ellen Pompeo’s resume. According to BuddyTv:

Pompeo is one of many Celebrities signed up to appear at the Swarovski ‘Fashion Rocks’ event that kicks off during Oscars week. Launched in London in 2003, Runway Rocks has traveled to Paris, New York, Barcelona and Tokyo, and comes to Los Angeles for the first time this year. The Runway Rocks show will include designs from Cate Adair, Christopher Kane, Tae Ashida, Shaun Leane and Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen, Tarina Tarantino and more. This is the first time Grey’s Anatomy’s Pompeo has attended the event which in the past has attracted celebrities as diverse as Courtney Love, Cheryl Tiegs, and Fran Dreschner.

I bet reporters will be all over her like white on rice trying to figure out if she’s really gone from the show or not. Could the week be any slower? Seriously.

Kate Walsh was on Jimmy Kimmel last week. She talks about being single, a broken engagement and game nights. If you’ve never seen an interview with her, she’s quite funny.

Something besides death

Monday, February 19th, 2007

I know we’re all focused on the death(s) this week, but here’s a nice spoiler for a change of pace. According to Kristin at E! two of the INTERNS are going to sleep together. So, we’re talking Christina, Meredith, George, Izzie and Alex. Any guesses??? I’m more interested in the circumstances that would lead up to the sex — like if someone was grieving over someone?? What do you think??

Ferry Boat, Part 2

Friday, February 16th, 2007

But seriously, folks. She just can’t be dead. But didn’t I totally call it? She flatlined and went into the light to find Denny and Dylan waiting for her. She’ll be back. She has to be back, she’s the title character. It would be like killing Bill Cosby in The Cosby Show’s heyday. I know its a drama, and I know creator Shonda Rhimes killed off Denny and Dylan, but those were peripheral characters. If one of the interns goes, I’m worried about the show’s future, really I am. It’s not that I’m so attached to Meredith, I think it would just mean the show was trying too hard to mine for big drama when it didn’t need to. So she’ll be back. Unless I’m totally crazy. And there’s a chance of that. But, really, what would be the point. My guess is, they’ll do something crazy to bring her back - like put her on bypass to warm up her blood (I think I saw that on ER once). They may even tell Derek she’s gone, but she won’t be. She just can’t.

Other moments of interest:
Izzie got off probation after drilling through a guy’s skull and saving his life.
Mark earned maybe a point with me by talking her through it (albeit in front of the Chief) and by sitting down next Derek.
Alex told Addison he would notice if she went missing.
Christina said Meredith was her “person.” Loved that - remember from season 1?
Izzie told George that he made a mistake in marrying Callie.

I know there’s much more, but I want to hear what you think. Talk to me, people.

And if someone just has to die next week, maybe it’ll be Ellis or Sidney or Olivia.

More fodder for the rumor mill convo

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

Hi guys. Sorry to miss yesterday - I was sick. But let’s get to it, shall we? Possible spoilers or foilers abound. Can’t wait for tonight’s episode! Here’s what Mike at TV Guide has to say:

Question: I’m freaking out over last week’s Grey’s and all the rumors about Meredith dying. There really is no Grey’s Anatomy without our favorite Grey! Please talk me down from the ledge!— Brandi Edwards
Ausiello: If this week’s CSI: Miami taught us anything, it’s that a major character can die and still live. Now get your drama-queen ass off that ledge!
Question: No frakkin’ way! For Papa Smurf’s sake, Meredith is totally going to be saved by McDreamy, right?— Lori
Ausiello: (Spoiler alert) Actually, I’m hearing it’ll be someone else who’s ultimately tasked with saving Mer.
Question: Do you have any more details about Denny’s return to Grey’s?— Rachel
Ausiello: Sure do. First off, forget what I said about his episode airing later this season. Although Jeffrey Dean Morgan only taped his scenes last week, the Big D is actually coming back much, much, much, much, much sooner. And you know that list of far-fetched Denny-comeback scenarios I compiled in the Ausiello Report? Turns out one of them’s not so far-fetched.
Question: You were right: The first part of the Grey’s three-episode arc was fantastic. Do you have any spoilers for the next two episodes?— Ashley
Ausiello: If you put two and two together, you already figured out that that was Elizabeth Reaser playing the pregnant woman with the crushed face that Alex saved. In the coming weeks and months (Reaser’s on board for at least nine eps), Alex’s attachment to her will intensify. And if you thought Reaser’s character had it rough last week, just wait. Another tragedy is about to befall poor Jane Doe.

And here’s what I think will happen - Meredith’s heart will stop but she’ll be rescued. While its stopped, she’ll head towards the obiligatory white light where she’ll meet Denny and Doc the dog for a chat. While there she’ll have to decide if she wants to stay or go back. She’ll come back. Then other character will met an untimely demise next week. I’m still thinking it will be Burke, but who knows. And maybe in a bit of Lostesque drama, he’ll get hit by a bus. I love that both shows have a Dr. Shepard and a Dr. Burke. (and yes I know Jack spells his last name Sheppard. One other possibility is George dying. Rumor swirled that he was unhappy with how ABC handled Isaiahgate, and if he wants off the show, this would be the way to do it. Just my silly theories to occupy you this morning. Hit me back.
