Heigl and Dempsey’s not so big year

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Our friends at Seattle Grace lost last night on Vh1’s Big In 2006 Awards. Dr. Stevens lost “Big It Girl” last night to Katherine McPhee. I’m sorry, y’all, but boo hiss. I’m thinking they said the wrong Katherine’s name! I just don’t see how McPhee beat Heigl. Oh well. Those runners up on American Idol just take over the world, don’t they? First Clay, now Katherine.

And even more upsetting is Kiefer Sutherland’s win for “Big TV Star” over Patrick Dempsey. I don’t watch 24, and I hear it is fantastic but come on! Sutherland over McDreamy?? Travesty!

“I’m tired of you men acting like boys?

Friday, December 1st, 2006

A few discussion points:

1)Isn’t Addison an ob/gyn surgeon? If so, why in the world would she be performing intestinal surgery on a newborn? That’s what pediatric surgeons are for.

2)Did Meredith’s constant sticking up for Christina drive you nuts? Or was that just me?

3)Finally, more Bailey! Is she right – should Christina be punished just as severely as Izzie?

4)How did Burke go to being Derek’s best guy pal, all camping in the woods, etc. a few weeks ago, to hating him for screwing up his hand?

5) George needs to chill. I’m tired of angry George (even if it is justified anger).

6) Anything else?

Recap

Friday, December 1st, 2006

Last night George continued freezing out everyone and letting them know how he really felt with his stank glare in everyone’s direction. Since George was causing so much trouble, Bailey ordered him to stay away from his father, but of course he didn’t listen. His dad pleaded with him to make nice with Callie and everyone else, but Georgie again wouldn’t listen. His dad went into a cardiac episode and Burke rushed in. But instead of helping, he simply instructed George. George and Burke watched his father’s surgery and when it was too much for O’Malley to bear, Burke told him what was going on. In the OR, Dr. Hahn told Christina that she reminded her of herself – cold and serious. Despite some tense moments, the surgery was fine.

Addison requested Meredith to help with a C-section. The patient was Meredith’s half sister. The baby was born with an intestinal blockage and Addison rushed to surgery on the baby, leaving Meredith to provide updates to her unknowing half sister and step mother. Mrs. Gray tried to bond with Meredith but she would have none of it. She finally told her that they were not her family. Mrs. Gray said they could be if Meredith let them.

Conjoined adult twins came in for separation. Derek thought the surgery was too risky and had trouble with the practice surgeries. Bailey told him that she understood and she felt as though she had lost her touch, too. But she said she was resolved to work her hardest and save lives and he should be, too. Motivated, Derek presses on in the surgery goes fine.

The Chief decided not to punish Christina and Burke. When Burke refused to let Derek try to fix his hand again, the Chief lost it. He told Burke he was disappointed in him and that he was tired of all the men acting like boys. In the end, Burke decided to let Derek look at his arm again.

Bailey was incensed that Christina and Burke were not being punished. She confronted the Chief about it and reminded him that Izzie was severely punished so Christina should be, too. She told him she knew she was the common thread and she was upset that her interns had gotten so out of control. The Chief told her that Christina and Burke’s deception didn’t result in the death of a patient but Izzie’s mistakes led to Denny’s death. He told Bailey she should be proud of Christina because she turned out just like Bailey – brave and bold.
